(17,161 posts)Do you think you have Covid?
sprinkleeninow
(20,249 posts)That I questioned. They did numerous tests. No temp, but I get warm, bust a heavy sweat [sorry], then cool off. Throat sensitive but not sore. I have had noises in my hearing impaired ears since I was mid twenties, and when I have something, they get considerably worse. I feel like I have an infection or something in addition to this bladder thing. Very weak, off balance. I feel like crap. On Cipro after ER prescribed nitrofurantoin which gave me side effects. Had two telemed visits with my PCP since then. I don't have that many covid symptoms, but who knows anymore. I feel imprisoned and can't get loose.

One could have some covid symptoms but not all or severe maybe. Who knows.
This is sucking what 'they' are deliberately putting us through. Where are the easily available tests. USA. Greatest country ever. Instilled in me growing up.
They are apprised now of this infection I got, but one time they took it as I needed to 'talk to someone'. I want a semblance of decent health back. I don't need talking to someone.

(8,710 posts)If you go on most of the internet bladder infection forums, most women will say they will only get more pain if they drink cranberry juice during an active infection. D'mannose seems to be the life saver for many women if the bacteria is E.coli which it usually is. This sugar just gobbles up E.coli. You can get the powder cheap on Amazon and read all the reviews. The d'mannose pills are way too expensive because you would have to take too many instead of just a spoonful of powder. I would stick with the old fashioned antibiotics, never Cipro.
sprinkleeninow
(20,249 posts)What old fashioned antibiotics are you referring to?
I asked for some others, but the medical people give you what they choose.

(8,710 posts)The group of antibiotic medicines known as fluoroquinolones such as ciprofloxacin (Cipro), levofloxacin (Levaquin) and others isn't commonly recommended for simple UTIs, as the risks of these medicines generally outweigh the benefits for treating uncomplicated UTIs. In some cases, such as a complicated UTI or kidney infection, your doctor might prescribe a fluoroquinolone medicine if no other treatment options exist.

It's great to also take if you feel an infection might be coming on - can stop an infection before it begins if you drink tons of water while taking this. Read the reviews - very helpful - there are over 1000 reviews.

(8,710 posts)I also like to go online and see the side effects real people are getting from drugs. My girlfriend became suicidal on Cipro (a side effect) and my long time honey has neuropathy in his legs pretty bad now from one round of Cipro. I had a bad reaction from one pill and have Cipro listed on all my medical records as a drug I am allergic too. Have your tried Amoxicillin for your UTI? Taking a super hot long bath and drinking a quart of water while in the bath can be very soothing. Best of luck.
A good site to see what reactions people are having to drugs - good and bad. Almost 2000 people post their reactions to Cipro.

(31,390 posts)I've been susceptible to bladder infections my whole life and they will make you miserable. Some years ago when I was given Cipro for an infection I had dizziness and balance side effects. I stay away from it now and take Bactrim if I get an infection. If you' ve been on it for almost 2 weeks, you should be almost done with meds, but call your doc and tell them about the balance problem. It could be a side effect. Might want to have you come in and test to see if Cipro has worked and you don't need to finish it, or switch you to something else.

(7,867 posts)If you have had symptoms going on for two weeks now, odds are you have a mild case, if you even have it at all. Have you lost your sense of smell/taste? I personally dealt with COVID for going on four weeks now. I learned quite a bit, with usually most cases "taking a turn for the worst" around 8 -12 days. If you are at or over two weeks now and don't have any of the severe problems (e.g., trouble breathing, high fever, etc.), odds are even if you have COVID, you just have a milder case and there isn't much that can be done other than to wait for your body to fight it off. I was told to basically rest up, keep hydrated, and if symptoms got worse, go to the ER.
Hopefully this helps you some. If you are worried that you might have COVID, the fear and anxiety alone might make you feel worse, so hopefully my experience with the situation clears up some things you may be unnecessarily worrying about.
Do you have a thermometer to check your temperature? If not, you should get one. If you do have a serious infection like sepsis or something like that, it will be most likely be reflected in your temperature, in which case you would know whether you should go back to the ER or not.

(54,388 posts)The constant treatments with antibiotics are not pleasant, and she always forgets to drink lots of water. She has serious RLS, and drinking lots of water is supposed to help with that. The hard part is forcing yourself to drink when you don't feel particularly thirsty. Binge drinking usually doesn't refer to plain water, but it does help her, so for what it's worth........

(20,249 posts)I had them frequently in the 70's and you would know it. No question. I didn't finish meds like a silly girl, until I had a bad one. A doc filling in for my regular scared the daylights outta me with a renal failure and dialysis scenario. I finished that course and never had another infection till 2011. Was not good. I had no clue, had no symptoms. Male nurse in 1st ER trip said when older you're asymptomatic.
I like mineral waters, but started drinking purified bottled. To get more in me, I add some gingerale to it. Get more down that way. I also read where hormone deficiency can play a part being responsible for these infections.
How you be? Love to you and your darling family. 💙

(54,388 posts)At least we managed to get my wife in and out of the USA.
After the Cape, I went down to Dallas for some brutal Dental surgery, from which I am still feeling the pain. I got to see some new digs that my outfit moved into (I liked the old ones better), but mostly just stayed home and took pain killers.
Our elder daughter and her husband came up from New York and stayed with us for a while, as did my sister and her husband. Out of 27 days on the Cape, I think my wife and I had all of 3 days to ourselves--not enough. I have planned it slightly differently for next year. Now all we have to do is survive until next year!
Our younger daughter didn't come at all this year, as her new baby was just born on June 17th. Interestingly enough, the little one has the same birthday as my maternal grandfather, whose 100th birthday party was a very special occasion for us. That was back in 1994, and even a monolith such as Air France offered us a cheapo package for the occasion, a huge discount on the air fare for the four of us, plus they threw in a return from New York to Paris on the Concorde and a hotel in Paris the night of the Concorde flight, since it got in too late to Paris to connect on to Düsseldorf.
When I arrived in Frankfurt two days ago, only about twelve pieces of luggage showed up on the conveyor belt at baggage claim, and none of them were mine. Not thrilled, I waited and waited, and suddenly, all by itself, one of my suitcases popped up all alone. I was still without the second one, and went to Lufthansa baggage tracing. They said my other bag was definitely there at the airport (how very reassuring) and would show up in the next 5 to 10 minutes. An hour later, it showed up, and I demanded they change my reservation on the plane-train up to Düsseldorf for the one leaving an hour later (they did).
I lugged and wheeled my two big bags and hand baggage through the airport to the train station. There was a mandatory free virus test there for passengers arriving from danger areas. You know, third world countries like Nigeria, Brazil, Haiti and the USA. I was told I had to register first, which was some impossible website I needed help with. If you didn't fill in EXACTLY what it wanted, it said "invalid." I FINALLY got it done about 14 minutes before my train was to leave, and only got to the testing area 10 minutes before the train was supposed to leave. I said so, and the woman directing the people to the test booths said the Germany equivalent of, "yeah, you can forget making that one." I was admitted in, gave them my paperwork, got up, started wheeling (and wheezing!) my stuff down to the train tracks, and made my train with over 100 seconds to spare. Piece of strudel!
The train was late up to Düsseldorf, but at least I didn't have to change. In Düsseldorf, I had to change to the local train, which was also late, but my wife waited for me on the track, and we huffed and puffed, and got my debris to her car, drove home, and I slept for about 4 hours straight. I did some phoning around, and I have to make at least two trips to Holland next week, plus one down to Frankfurt to plead with the US consulate to get me a new passport without canceling the old one, as I need it every day to travel for work. I'm still in a different country every day, and I still manage, but at 68, I know I can't do this forever. This was brought home in no uncertain terms when I talked to my brother in northern Virginia yesterday. He said he was planning to retire at the end of this year, and he is two years younger than I am. I think he just is ready for a life more connected with the outside world. For decades he has had a job where he can't talk to ANYBODY about what he does. I don't blame him for wanting out. He still can't talk about what he did, but at least he won't be restrained from talking about anything that has happened afterward. I wouldn't even WANT that kind of security clearance. I still enjoy my mobility, and the Jason Bourne travel schedule really never bothered me, but I don't want to be"required" to the extent that I have been. Like Clemençeau said, "the cemeteries are full of irreplaceable people--all of whom have been replaced."
