Why does Trump think mail-in voting will help Dems more than Repubs? I don't get it. nt (Original Post) LAS14 Aug 2020 OP

The numbers don’t support them, as they are a minority party. With mail-in voting, more Americans votes are counted and Republicans tend to lose.

We’ve done poorly statewide in Florida. Not sure what trump’s problem is.

Republicans like to “slice the salami,” a little slice here and there. Before long, the salami is gone.

people have the option to vote by mail. So he’s counting on more votes being suppressed among likely Democratic voters via mail in as well as physical, regulatory or other logistical suppression tactics than will be the case among likely R voters. There won’t be a lot of no mail—in voter suppression in districts that are dominantly red.

Only about 14% of mail in people are for trump whereas about 70 percent are for Biden.

Democratic voters are much more closely packed together. With Covid and the normal GOP suppression of closing polling stations it makes actual voting much more difficult.

In a rural county it is much harder to justify closing polling stations because of distance.

Possibly as simple as that.

Without Russian interference, Trump has no chance (and the GOP has no chance of hanging on to the Senate).

We saw it during the primary in Wisconsin and Georgia. Polling places are being shut down due to. The pandemic, which means a lot of larger cities will have fewer polling locations. If people are forced to vote on election day, it will mean a much larger crowd and longer wait. People waited up to five and nine hours to vote in a primary, with likely half the turnout of a presidential election.

If Democrats are forced to vote in person, we'll lose the election because of it.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are advocating voting in person now because of the post office issues but there are ways to combat that even before election day:

1. Early voting. Know when your state begins it so you can utilize it in-person if needed.

2. Request your ballot ASAP. Get it as quickly as possible.

3. Mail your ballot ASAP. There's no reason to wait. If you are concerned, drop it off.

4. If you can't do any of that, vote in person on election day but be aware you'll probably be waiting over an hour, if not five.

If he can get enough of his base to believe that voting by mail is inherently fraud prone, when he loses that will be his rallying cry, "I told you, massive fraud from all those mail in ballots!"
