Biden and Harris call for three-month nationwide mask mandate

Former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris are calling for a three-month nationwide mask mandate to limit the spread of coronavirus.

During a briefing by public health experts in Wilmington, Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, told reporters that all the nation's governors should require this.

"Every single American should be wearing a mask when they're outside for the next three months, at a minimum. Every governor should mandate mandatory mask-wearing," Biden said, suggesting that widespread mask use could save 40,000 lives over the next three months. "Let's institute a mask mandate nationwide starting immediately, and we will save lives."

One July study found that 40,000 lives would have been saved in two months if a national mask mandate for employees had gone into effect for the months of April and May.

I wear a mask, even when walking, on my own, out in the neighborhood because I want to normalize them.

We should have a mask mandate nationwide until 85% of the population has been vaccinated.

6. Damned if he does. Damned if he doesn't. Kind of dirty politics but I approve.

If Trump issues a directive to governors to suggest or mandate the wearing of masks (which should have been done weeks ago and is the correct thing to do as President), Trump will look to Trump's fans like he is caving to Biden. If Trump does nothing and the spread and/or hospitalization/death rate continues to get worse, or does not dramatically improve, Biden and Harris can berate Trump for not listening to them and the experts.
After three months, the suggestion can be said to be out of date. It would have worked three months ago, but since Trump did nothing we now will need to do ______________.

Yes. I agree with the policy of nationwide mask wearing in public for a period of time, but I also think it was good politics to come out and suggest it.
