(57,073 posts)When I worked in the legal field some years ago, USPS was the only official way to serve notices, etc. Other carriers didn't count. Not sure if that has changed. But you are absolutely correct, USPS is essential!

(17,930 posts)they really don't know how things actually work. I suppose they think the mail just magically appears in their mailbox every day. They have no comprehension of what's involved in moving that amount of stuff here, there and everywhere and get the vast, vast majority of it to where it's addressed in 3 days time. And for less than a buck, while FedEx and UPS want $20.

(3,321 posts)I assumed that people living in this country understood how the mail system works. I am wrong frequently. Part of being alive, I suppose.

(17,930 posts)We live in a super complex world. Whole lot of stuff I don't understand. My wife's medical world is still a mystery to me 28 years later.

(13,517 posts)have added are they okay with losing their social security and Medicaid as well. In Missouri the majority of people on Medicaid are in rural area. Last week Missouri voted to expand Medicaid and most people in rural areas voted not to expand it even though many are on it.

(24,300 posts)My wife called in several prescriptions to OptumRX the other day. We have dealt with them for years, and they ship through the USPS. We asked the operator if they were experiencing any problems with shipments due to the crisis with the USPS. She asked us what crisis was that? She, a person that deals with the shipment of prescription drugs through the USPS for a living, was completely oblivious to the whole situation.
We, as well informed people on a website like DU, must constantly remind ourselves about how uninformed so many people are. Let's just say the lady at OptumRX is now much more informed after speaking to my wife.
