it was explored in American Horror Story The Cult. It goes like this, for people to truly care about their rights, they need to be physically threatened. E.g., you want real long term change, you elect someone like trump that will eventually physically threaten every american one way or another. Only, we all grossly underestimated the stupidity of 40%. So at this point, even if it’s plausible, the cult took roots on its own. At the same time, oddly enough, we are seeing some real change in racial justice.
