If the postal workers become brainwashed by the authoritarians, they could themselves subvert the mail for many political purposes. Nothing would kill the postal system faster. Maybe this is what it's all about.

A West Virginia postal carrier pled guilty to mail and election fraud after admitting he changed the political affiliation on multiple voter ballots from Democrat to Republican.

Which, come to think about it may very well what Dejoy is hoping will happen - no sorting machines, fewer mailboxes and a cut to the workforce - that'll certainly slow things down.
