Some folks do read the whole post before responding, but a lot of people don't, and it doesn't just happen here, but almost everywhere on the web, and to me, that's sad.

why can't you throw 5 bucks to the owners? You can get a star for one dollar.

You would have to provide the owners your real name, though.

because star members are identified. So the owners know who they are dealing with.

So the issue is who people are, and that's why I think it affects credibility.

That was a thing of beauty to see.

OMG, she ate his lunch.

Sorry, folks. I gave up trying to read minds. If you (not addressed to the OP here) don't tell me what you're talking about, I'm not going to spend my time trying to figure it out. And if you assume I know what your eyes are looking at right fucking now (or were looking at eight hours ago when you posted), I'm not taking you too seriously.

Related, people often post the first four paragraphs of an article rather than the most relevant four paragraphs.

And then replies to those posts basically miss the context yet another way.

sending out an electronic message to the entire group. First line was “please read this message all the way to the end”, and then proceeded to outline dozens of onerous new proceeders that would be implemented to keep track of project billable hours and other such minutiae.

It was ridiculously complicated so I knew right away something didn’t smell right and skipped right to the end, where, sure enough, the last line said “if you’ve read this far, please ignore all the instructions above. This was just a test to see if you can follow instructions”!

It’s amazing how many otherwise intelligent people got 3-4 paragraphs in and started freaking out! Even barging into the bosses office to argue against the new protocols! Boy, were their faces red!

I was just expressing an opinion. Whether or not it kicked your post is beyond my intention.

DU is a great place, so let's not dictate who should have a star, or how much of a post to read, or whether we read every single subsequent post to a thread. Rules rules and more rules. Let people do their thing, please. We're grownups here, mostly, I think we can cope.

No one should have to read every post completely, unless they reply to it.

It's only polite, and you wouldn't like it if someone interrupted you while you were talking, would you?

To me, that's the same thing as reading the subject line and commenting on that instead of hearing the person out.

Anyway, thank you.
