Some folks do read the whole post before responding, but a lot of people don't, and it doesn't just happen here, but almost everywhere on the web, and to me, that's sad.

(16,319 posts)why can't you throw 5 bucks to the owners? You can get a star for one dollar.
You would have to provide the owners your real name, though.
AmyStrange

See, I read your whole post and thanks for the kick.

(16,319 posts)you are one of the original members.
There aren't many of you.

It's one of the first things I'm gonna do when I get any extra money and thank you.

(6,148 posts)If I give $35 to DU, I can give YOU a free Star Membership. It's a bit more than I planned to spend, but hmmm...
AmyStrange
(7,989 posts)-
that is such a nice thing to even just consider, that I have no idea how to thank you.

(6,148 posts)A very special community. We come together, we support each other, we inform each other, we have a place to scream and yell, a place to get advice, a place to connect.
It is a good space.

best of all, you're here!

(16,319 posts)because star members are identified. So the owners know who they are dealing with.
So the issue is who people are, and that's why I think it affects credibility.
question everything
(47,488 posts)Some old timers that surprise me.
I would think that anyone here who has to pay for connecting to the Internet should be able to afford $5.00 for one year.

(16,319 posts)I think DU is an extraordinarily good value, considering that it's open to everyone, it's the first site I check in the morning and the last site I check at night. Regardless whether one posts, it's the best liberal news aggregator on the web.

(65,079 posts)The only way to rationalize this criticism is to assume that a likely cause of disagreement is failure to read an entire post.
I think that's an unfair assumption, and nearly impossible to prove.

And, I DIDN'T recommend.
It's a presumptuous and arrogant point of view.
And your continued replies are passive-aggressive..
I'm not kicking your thread.
I'm exposing my negative view of the existence of it.

BAM! POW! ZAP!
That was a thing of beauty to see.
OMG, she ate his lunch.
Sorry, folks. I gave up trying to read minds. If you (not addressed to the OP here) don't tell me what you're talking about, I'm not going to spend my time trying to figure it out. And if you assume I know what your eyes are looking at right fucking now (or were looking at eight hours ago when you posted), I'm not taking you too seriously.

(11,990 posts)...which answers/addresses the concern they reply about.
Related, people often post the first four paragraphs of an article rather than the most relevant four paragraphs.
And then replies to those posts basically miss the context yet another way.
AmyStrange
(7,989 posts)-
thank you for bringing all that up.
You're right, and I will try to do better in the future.

(3,534 posts)sending out an electronic message to the entire group. First line was please read this message all the way to the end, and then proceeded to outline dozens of onerous new proceeders that would be implemented to keep track of project billable hours and other such minutiae.
It was ridiculously complicated so I knew right away something didnt smell right and skipped right to the end, where, sure enough, the last line said if youve read this far, please ignore all the instructions above. This was just a test to see if you can follow instructions!
Its amazing how many otherwise intelligent people got 3-4 paragraphs in and started freaking out! Even barging into the bosses office to argue against the new protocols! Boy, were their faces red!
AmyStrange
(7,989 posts)-

The important thing to remember is WHEN YOU DO REPLY, that's when I think you should definitely read the whole post first, but other times... not so important.
Again, thank you for your honesty.

(9,581 posts)I was just expressing an opinion. Whether or not it kicked your post is beyond my intention.
DU is a great place, so let's not dictate who should have a star, or how much of a post to read, or whether we read every single subsequent post to a thread. Rules rules and more rules. Let people do their thing, please. We're grownups here, mostly, I think we can cope.
AmyStrange
(7,989 posts)-
No one should have to read every post completely, unless they reply to it.
It's only polite, and you wouldn't like it if someone interrupted you while you were talking, would you?
To me, that's the same thing as reading the subject line and commenting on that instead of hearing the person out.
Anyway, thank you.
