I live in a red area of Florida. The neighbors in question are a nice couple, & I've done work for them over the years, most recently installing one of those big natural-gas powered Generac generators with a transfer switch that switches their whole house over to the generator when the power goes out, a very handy thing when you live in hurricane country.
I've never detected a hint of racism from them, they've said they've been lifelong Republicans because they lean toward small government & lower taxes, & some time ago when the topic of Trump came up the husband said, with clear dismay, that he felt like "the guy has taken over my party."
Well, this afternoon he came over & rang the doorbell. My wife answered & I overheard most of the conversation. It sounded like he came over specifically to talk about politics, which we've never done before. My wife is Italian (still an Italian citizen) so he started by asking her what her family & friends in Europe think about Trump. My wife, being Italian, didn't hold back. (I love that about her!) Long story short, he's PISSED at Trump & wanted to tell us that after being lifelong Republicans (they're both in their mid/late 50s) he & his wife were voting for Biden. He was surprisingly well-informed & rattled off a whole list of things Trump has done that pissed him off.
He said that he knows where every Trump flag in the neighborhood is (there are 4-5) & every time he drives by those houses he flips them off ... which is exactly what I do! LOL!
What surprised me the most is that he said we would see some signs in his front yard soon. I mean ... a life-long Republican in a red part of FL flipping off Trump flags & putting Biden signs in his yard???
It gives me hope!

(31,261 posts)The state has 67 counties and around 8.1 million registered voters. Slightly less than half of those voters are republicans, if Trump loses 3% of the republicans and we keep who voted for Hillary (very reasonable guess), Trump loses Florida. On top of that, I KNOW some blue voters that didnt vote in 2016 but are ready to vote blue now.

(8,054 posts)NOT a conspiracy THEORY...it was in the Senate Intelligence Briefing on the 2016 russian interference in the election.
Until this country wakes up and does something about securing the COMPUTERIZED, HACKABLE voting machines, we are going to keep having really strange results in elections, and people in power who the American public have NOT put in office...people who were voted OUT of office, but for the hacking.
Now, we have all these voting machines Ivanka trump got the patent on from China.

It doesn't really matter what the polling numbers say, does it? It matters WHO is counting the "votes".

(7,947 posts)Good people vote against Trump.
An old couple-friend of mine have turned against Trump. We haven't talked politics for a long time-- it was too painful to see their faces change and become angry and bitter when they used to repeat his lies and insults-- but last week, she called out of the blue to talk about books we were reading, and suddenly said, "Have you read Mary Trump's book?"
"Yeah... what did you think?"
She said, "I think he's a terrible man, and I'm sorry I voted for him. Dave and I won't do that again!"
It's not like these 2 votes will make the difference, but I think they might be representative of other former Trump voters.

(9,263 posts)seniors of the GOP will be swapping support to Biden en masse in Florida, Texas, Arizona and other states with significant retirement demographics in the South.
40 million seniors or more will have a say in the outcome and judgement of trump, gop governors, COVID and SS/Medicare funding and thru the USPS into this
election will not be close under any scenario

(1,648 posts)The question about what her friends and family think about tRUMP in Europe.
I actually think the whole country needs to be woken up about what NATO countries think of the United States under tRUMP, compared to how it used to be just a few years ago.
Needless to say, Americans should be reminded daily about how life was in the United States three and a half years ago, compared to today under tRUMP and Republican Senate ruling authority.

(4,987 posts)you can vote for anyone you want of either party.
It's only in the primaries that some states have restrictions depending on how you're registered.

(4,987 posts)I was behind a jeep with a Trump KAGA sign.
The way we were stopped, my driver's seat was right in line with his rear view mirror.
It was all I could do to keep from giving him the one-fingered salute.
But I did resist the temptation....one never knows what reaction might be stirred up.
You dont need Bubba pulling a gun on you. Every truck I see with a tRump sign or flag, the driver always looks angry at the world. Not worth triggering a rage fueled incident.

(7,968 posts)Looking on the optimistic side (which I don't often do because I think it is more important to work the worst case scenarios), if we turn Florida blue there are many straightforward paths to 270!
