An all-out war over mail voting has erupted in courts across the country. Here's what's at stake.

Do you have to request an absentee ballot application, or will one be sent to you automatically? Will your ballot be counted if the mailman is late? If you fill out your absentee ballot wrong, can you fix it?

Questions like these — the fine print of democracy when it comes to mail voting — are at the heart of a record-breaking, high-dollar legal war being waged in courtrooms nationwide, fueled by the coronavirus that’s upended the idea of holding a presidential election as usual and by President Donald Trump’s constant warnings about widespread voter fraud that no one can prove exists.

"This is clearly a historic high," Trevor Potter, the former commissioner and chairman of the Federal Election Commission and now president of the Campaign Legal Center, a nonprofit watchdog, said of the sheer number of lawsuits tied to vote by mail. "It would have been a contentious fall without the pandemic, but the pandemic changes everything because it has caused so many states to revisit how they vote."

Substantive change to voter access in multiple states all at once is rare, but this year, officials have pushed to make mail voting easier to help protect people from the coronavirus. Plenty of these changes are happening in the courts — many state legislatures are out of session — as state officials, advocates and partisans duke it out over how to adapt existing election laws to fit a pandemic.

what happened to all the mail sorting machines. She she posted yesterday about this being a serious issue. Where are they?

I am thinking they have been taken to warehouses so they can't be found, and possible so they can be used again "IF" trump can get his way and privatize the postal service. This has to be a crime, and all those involved need to be answering for what they have done, and that includes trump. He says he knows "nothing" about it, which is a lie.

If we can't get the machines back in time, or reprogramed in time, we need to get states to find other ways to get the ballots counted. Some states are extending the length of time to process the ballots that are posted marked by Election Day. No matter how long it takes the votes need to be counted because we all know, as does trump, he will lose "big time"!

It is not possible for the USPS to immediately have the sorting machines built, reinstalled, and turned on without anymore delay. No, it simply is not possible to correct that damage before the election, without any damage to voting being done, let alone to everything else done by mail. That alone is a treasonous act against the American People and a fascist take over of the government and our process. Even if the Democratic Party got immediate wins for orders to cease and immediately remedy the problem and damage, it will never happen soon enough for it to not effect the election. And do expect the same escalating fascist tactics to damage all voting before the election and expect Bill Barr's SS to impose their will over the country during the election and after, even if they have to be the election monitors themselves. Nobody is going to step up and save the American People from tRUMP and Republican thugs. tRUMP is going all in, because he will be labeled a criminal and what he has really been doing will be out in the open for all to see. That is also why he never cared about how history will treat him.
