Ted Lieu: This bill doesn't require Senate or @POTUS approval. We should pass it ASAP.

Ted Lieu
@tedlieu

US House candidate, CA-33
In June, @RepJoeNeguse @RepCicilline @RepValDemings @RepDean @RepRaskin & I introduced bill to allow House to execute our Inherent Contempt power against Administration officials. This bill doesn’t require Senate or @POTUS approval. We should pass it ASAP.

House Dems propose strengthening Congress’ contempt power to break administration stonewalls
“We've seen unprecedented and illegal obstruction by the Trump administration to Congress,” Ted Lieu said.

Snip

House Democrats increasingly frustrated by the Trump administration for defying subpoenas are proposing legislation that would ratchet up their power to punish executive branch officials who reject their requests.

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.), and five other members of the House Judiciary Committee, unveiled a rule change Monday to formalize and expand Congress' power of "inherent contempt" — its authority to unilaterally punish anyone who defies a subpoena for testimony or documents.

It’s time to flex more power if tRump and his appointed officials are so obviously not living up to their mandates while also betraying the public’s trust. Tens of thousands of excess deaths and millions at risk due to tRump’s deceit and malfeasance should not allow him to disable the postal service and steal the election.

expand Congress' power of "inherent contempt" — its authority to unilaterally punish anyone who defies a subpoena for testimony or documents.............never in American history have we seen an administration that files lawsuits to stop subpoenas and issue NDA's
to keep people quiet. Let alone keep trumpo and putins conversations totally private. PUT THE LAW ON THE BOOKS, a working
democracy must be transparent, otherwise we'll have another Hitler in charge.

If this power exists, or CAN exist, why in the fuck have Nancy Pelosi, Jerry Nadler and Adam Schiff not already done this???

The democratic party has been way too fucking passive, and half of what is going on in this country is OUR fault for not standing up to fight, and I'm talking about since Reagan. We're like an abused spouse or some shit.

Never having strong enough beliefs to fight for our country is NOT the party I want to belong to. Not any more. BLACK LIVES MATTER!! White nationalists in the police force matters! Neonazis in the white house and heading up the justice department matters!!! Letting international corporations suck off the government teet while we have people going hungry and going bankrupt for medical bills MATTERS!!!

I'm sorry if everyone wants a nice, compliant, traditionally submissive democratic party. I don't. The planet is melting. People are starving and dying. Being nice TO NEIGHBORS is appropriate. Being nice to republicans IS INAPPROPRIATE!! They're using OUR airwaves to turn half the country against the other half, and create a cult that is actually killing people. That has to stop. All the crap has to stop.

Rant not over by a long shot.

When I first saw his other tweet, I thought Mitch would table it.

I knew for sure it would die on Trump's desk.

This is great news.
