.
In a blue room in the back, beneath an American flag with the words MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN printed in block letters inside the white stripes, a woman sat alone at the end of a conference table. She wasnt participating in the volunteer training. She was the volunteer training. There just werent any volunteers.
When she first thought I might be one, she was friendly. She offered me coffee and asked me to sit down. Two people had signed up for the Trump Leadership Initiative training, she said, but each of them had canceled, one citing an ear infection and the other citing allergies.
Nuzzis article contains several of these stories. Campaign training events in Harrisburg, Lancaster, and Pittsburgh all with no one showing up, and in the case of Pittsburgh, no one appeared to know that an event was scheduled.
None of this is a surprise. Trump didnt win the 2016 election due to a superior campaign organization, and the idea that one of the most unorganized presidential campaigns in history could turn it all around and become an unstoppable grassroots machine seems like a fantasy.
Trump has his core base of support, and they will show up for him, but Donald Trump may not be able to reach the fringe Trump voters that Democrats have been in contact with since 2018. Trump has a massive problem in Pennsylvania, and evidence is piling up to suggest that things are getting worse for the top of the Republican ballot in the Keystone State.

2020 will be the first election since 1980 that the GOP is unrestrained from intimidating voters at polls.
Roger Stone was the mastermind of this tactic in the 70s; hes currently a free man and available for an encore...

(10,208 posts)The greatest understatement Ive heard in a long time. He said it in an interview a week or so ago when he predicted Joe would win.

(10,208 posts)Doing everything they can to keep him happy, maybe he really believes his own BS. I personally hate him more than anyone else in the world and cant think of anything that would befall him that could make me feel sorry for him.

(5,644 posts)he couldn't win.
Later they said he used local NRA groups to GOTV but not clear how real that was or how effective. It was still a really weird election.

(7,724 posts)candidate, with or without ground game..still is but his support has softened a bit.
He's gonna lose PA this time...burbs and urban centers will win the day. Pennsylvania's coming back home to the Dems.

(7,724 posts)North Carolina will be tough with Repubs running things. In Wisconsin I think we'll pull it out, Arizona looks very promising. Florida may be too far gone for crooked Donnie and DeSantis to steal.

(5,644 posts)I donate and I know there's other activities to get involved in (and I'm in a couple of local campaigns), but so frustrating not to have a chance here

(7,724 posts)...and brave to go up against that breed of Republican. The powers that be need to be there supporting you...hope they are! We can't win if we don't play.

(13,603 posts)It was a first-person piece like "My trip to the local trump campaign office" or something like that. They described walking into a large room with desks, chairs, posters, but no people at all, not even staff.
