MyPillow guy gets Trump to trade in his advocacy for hydroxychloroquine for a flower oil to cure COVID-19
Published 1 min ago on August 16, 2020By Sarah K. Burris

President Donald Trump has come up with another cure to the coronavirus pandemic. According to Axios, Trump thinks that the oil from a flower could help save people.

“Trump has expressed enthusiasm for the Food and Drug Administration to approve an extract from the oleander plant as a dietary supplement to cure COVID-19, despite lack of proof that it works,” said Axios in the Sunday report.

Oleander Poisoning as an Example of Self-Medication Attempt
Işıl Bavunoğlu,1 Musa Balta,1 and Zeynep Türkmen2

Abstract
Background:

There is an increasing interest in herbal products as a self-medication method in recent years. Some plant extracts either turn into drugs over time or are consumed directly without treatment. One of these plants is Nerium oleander L., which is a potentially lethal plant, since it has cardiac glycosides. However, numerous researches of its extracts have been performed against cancer cell lines in recent literature. This contradiction leads to misinterpretation and induces the prevalence of intoxication or fatal cases.

Case Report:

This case is associated with an oleander-poisoned patient, who was admitted to the Emergency unit 20 hours after the first dose, and 8 hours after the second dose. Although she lives in a metropolis and has a higher level of education and numerous hospital facilities available, she had decided to take self-medication for her Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and malignant thyroid disease which was caused by her apprehensive thoughts. Oleandrin was detected in the urine at a concentration of 3.2 ng/mL and in the serum at a concentration of 8.4 ng/mL by chromatographic analysis at the time of admission.
Conclusion:

This case represents the misunderstanding of herbal treatments by the community. Promoting awareness of the potential toxicity of this plant among the public may help to reduce the incidence of poisoning due to Nerium species.
Keywords: Herbal treatment, oleandrin poisoning, self-medication

I can understand how a lab might extract a useful compound from this plant or other somewhat poisonous plants (digitalis/foxglove) but it's not something to encourage people to randomly consume. And we all know oleander will no more treat Covid any more than colloidal silver or hydroxychloroquine but the Fox News crowd is doomed to believe.

This is just as bad as suggesting bleach. Good lord, this man is a killer.

In your title, add “This is not from the Onion”. Because when I read about something this far out, I look for the Onion. I know, I know, I should have learned by now. Maybe it is just a deep yearning in me for a return to normalcy, where I am not stunned by crazy stuff from a USA President on a daily basis.

I think they will end up killing off more of their base who will simply take their word for it. The Doh! Brigade.

Oh, he despises them so it may be good for laugh for his kind.

first watched Day After Tomorrow (about a global climate change cold storm) while a freezing polar vortex of arctic cold air swept over my city freezing everything in its path and brought on by..
climate change

I thought both movies were good although not the genre I would usually seek out.
But because they were about current topics when viewing , it may have made them more interesting I suppose than if I saw them when they first came out, and before they mirrored a little too close for comfort in some ways our real life

H1N1 & SARS were the inspiration

The single mom is narcissistic and kills a lover when he rejects her. She poisoned him with oleander. She goes to jail for life but claims she is innocent and gets this big following of people working to get her out of jail. The daughter ends up going from one bad foster home to another and really hates her mom for her situation Good movie - it was made from a book of the same name. I remember reading it and throwing my beautiful oleander plant away for fear of my pets eating a leaf.
