It just doesn’t jive with other recent polls and there doesn’t seem to be anything I can think of to point to that would even account for such a dramatic narrowing right now. Will wait to see if further polls support this.

There is a better than 1-in-3 chance that any single poll will have a measurement more than one standard deviation from the true value.

Note that 538 also gives the CNN poll a lower rating than the WSJ poll.

I
Think the race is tightening. Prior to this week several polls had Biden leading on the economy. Then this week I saw two polls with Trump leading. One showed Trump with a 2 pt lead and the other showed a 10 point lead. I don’t understand it. He has the lowest approval as any president. He has caused the death of 170,000 people, sucks at response to the pandemic, tweets out racist shit and he is still within 4 points of the Democratic nominee. I don’t know if Kamala hurt Biden with the people that wanted to vote for him but not Hillary. Or if this was always gonna happen. For some reason things that would destroy another politician’s career does not affect Trump at all. It is sickening..

Better than Dubya’s high watermark among that demographics from the last 50 years. Doesn’t seem likely to me.

That is the key category. Here is a recent article on the comparison to 2016:

https://morningconsult.com/2020/08/11/biden-trump-clinton-favorability-2020-polling/

There is not going to be a shift of Trump voters to Biden. Everyone should throw out that anecdotal crap right now. You can see from the link that 71% of Republicans have a "very unfavorable" view of Biden.
