Trump eyes new unproven coronavirus "cure"

To the alarm of some government health officials, President Trump has expressed enthusiasm for the Food and Drug Administration to permit an extract from the oleander plant to be marketed as a dietary supplement or, alternatively, approved as a drug to cure COVID-19, despite lack of proof that it works.

Driving the news: The experimental botanical extract, oleandrin, was promoted to Trump during an Oval Office meeting in July. It's embraced by Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson and MyPillow founder and CEO Mike Lindell, a big Trump backer, who recently took a financial stake in the company that develops the product.

Lindell told Axios that in the meeting, Trump "basically said: …'The FDA should be approving it.'"
The White House did not respond to requests for comment.

Why is the My Pillow guy advising Trump on miracle "cures"? For that matter, why is Ben Carson involved in the pandemic response? He is not a specialist in contagious diseases.

Every day I am more and more alarmed at the way this pandemic is being handled.

That is about 28,000 deaths PER MONTH...

WWII total deaths (over 45 months from December 1941 to August 1945) = 405,399 (total), approx.
That is about 9,000 deaths PER MONTH...3X LESS than COVID-19 to date...
Its even fucking worse when you consider the total COMBAT deaths in WWII was reported as 291,557 or approx. 6,500 a month...nearly 5X LESS than COVID-19 to date...

Anyone else believe that sending kids back to schools en masse right now is the very definition of STUPIDITY? By November, we may be seeing 2,000+ deaths A DAY in the USA...and yet, despite all of this, I am to believe that polls are "tightening"? I am to believe that 45% or MORE of my fellow citizens are screaming for MORE of this????

What the actual fuck happened to this country?
I was once very proud to be an American. I was too young for Apollo, but my parents took me to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and I LOVED the shuttle flights (I was devastated by both Challenger and Columbia). I believed - until 2001 - that this country was fundamentally good (yes, I failed to do adequate study prior to that, but it was a real emotion).

I was 9 for the Miracle on Ice, barely understood hockey, but I remember that feeling very well...
I was 30 for the 9/11 attacks, but I felt differently when the war drums were pounded and the people became millions in the streets getting totally ignored by the government.

I cannot even believe that America in 1980, or 2001 or even 2012 would be this fucking docile and inured to reality that a president advocating for quackery and making medical diagnoses from the Press Room is not even the craziest shit that will happen TODAY...
