(54,408 posts)The HP Whitman, I don't get, unless she has promised to use some of her famous acid comments on her Party's nominee. If THAT is the case, she can get really nasty, and I'd love to see Republicans reeling from getting bitten by their own pet rattlesnake.

(34,111 posts)but I do not like it. We never come out of these shake hands across the great divide without losing. I do understand this so I will not be critical but I sure wish we were keeping our convention for ourselves.
At least they are not just random choices who are simply R's with a slight liberal bent (or not) there is a good reason these people were chosen. Mostly I do not like Kasich since we know he is itching to run next time, we really do not want him to gain creds here.
Hoping for the best.

Right now a great many people are voting against Trump and not for Biden and I hope that the convention will change that and people will gain more enthusiasm with regard to voting for Joe.

(987 posts)I don't believe they spoke at the convention, someone correct me if I am wrong, but Obama lined up republicans who supported him.
Biden is doing the same, showing that he can reach across the aisle and get things done for the good of the American people.
Anything that irritates Trump is a good thing!

(5,042 posts)Meg Whitman got whipped in a governor's race by 14 points, 10 years ago in a heavy Republican year. Never. Won. A. Thing.
Who is clamoring for Meg Whitman's opinion? Really? Show your work.
Meanwhile, Katie Porter won a traditionally Republican district in the same state in 2018. She;s in OUR party!
But she's mean when she asks tough questions of Ben Carson or Nancy DeVos. I guess America doesn't want to hear someone like that.

(3,324 posts)You just know MAGAt's are trying to dig up a Dem to talk at the RNC next week. Well, not going to be Webb this year. I think I saw he is on board with Biden this year. And Jill Stein doesn't count.
But regardless, great to see the Dems expanding their tent against Trump this cycle!!!!!!

If a bunch of Republicans want to get up there and speak on behalf of Biden while denouncing Trump, fine by me.
We have an incredibly broad range of political speakers at our convention this year, from Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at one end to John Kasich and Susan Molinari at the other. That would seem to indicate the size of the coalition for Biden this time around.
Who's Trump going to have? Richard Spencer and Jacob Wohl?
Getting rid of Trump is the ONLY goal this year. That said, I still don't buy into this idea that just because some Republicans are going to speak at our convention, it means the Democratic Party is suddenly going to be taking orders from Meg Whitman.

(7,643 posts)to vote for Biden/Harris, great, but we shouldn't be giving up what's left of our disproportionately minute slice of media, ESPECIALLY the DEMOCRATIC Convention.
Let rethugs broadcast their "come to the light" messages on rethug outlets.
There is no "liberal media".

(10,014 posts)reason to believe it will bring gop voters to Biden.
But I dont want to see any republicans in the cabinet or other high appointments. There are plenty of Dems who can lead, we dont need them to govern.

(89,252 posts)to be Democrats wil be turned away from voting Biden based on who speaks at a convention.
That means they can't be relied on if something like that makes them not vote.

(30,613 posts)Somebody who's left-leaning might conclude from the slate of speakers, that Biden is not going to actually save the country; maybe he'll just do whatever Republicans want.
Somebody who's right-leaning already has his guy; Trump.
Whose vote are we more likely to get? The right-leaning jerk, or the left-leaning discouraged person? The answer should be pretty easy. So why are we falling all over ourselves, again, to please the mythical "white working class" (euphemism for MAGAT) voter?
JI7
(89,252 posts)I look at their actions. If they aren't voting Biden over Trump becsuse there are republicans that will speak in support of the Democratic candidate over Trump then those actions show their problem is with Biden getting support.
They prefer Trump by their actions. Just like Trump claims to not be racist we see by his actions he clearly is a racist.

(9,350 posts)I agree with most of what this tweet says. I think the DNC could have given these slots to up and coming Democrats. I disagree with the notion that Democrats need to try to get Republicans to vote for the Democratic Party. As far as I know, the real problem that Hillary Clinton faced in 2016 was that the Obama Coalition stayed home.
The slots that were given to Republicans could have been given to the Mayor of Ferguson, the President of the College Democrats, the President of the Young Democrats, the President of the Wisconsin College Democrats, or the President of the Wisconsin Young Democrats. If those individuals have already been given speaking spots, then the spots could have been given to other up and coming Democrats, or even other well known Democrats.

(9,074 posts)And Lieu really never criticizes the party, so that was something.
I really have no idea who Meg Whitman is supposed to attract. I'm not sure I've ever heard her name after she lost her bid.
Our party really needs to understand the reality we're living in now. They're playing politics like it's 2000. We need a party that plays politics like it's 2030.
