(25,981 posts)Postal Service warns 46 states their voters could be disenfranchised by delayed mail-in ballots
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/usps-states-delayed-mail-in-ballots/2020/08/14/64bf3c3c-dcc7-11ea-8051-d5f887d73381_story.html
The machine reductions, together with existing mail delays and a surge of packages a boon to the Postal Services finances but a headache for an organization designed to handle paper rather than boxes also risk hamstringing the agency as the election approaches and have led lawmakers to hike pressure on DeJoy to rescind his directives. [snip]
The letters warning about November caution many states that their deadlines for voters to request an absentee ballot are too close to Election Day and that the Postal Service cannot adjust its delivery standards to accommodate the requirements of state election law. The letters put the onus on election officials to adjust deadlines or educate voters to act well before them. [snip]
Eighteen states and D.C. have eased or expanded access to mail ballots during the pandemic, allowing concerned voters to avoid potential exposure to the virus at polling places. These policy shifts have brought the number of Americans who are eligible to cast mail or absentee ballots in the general election to a historic high of nearly 180 million, roughly 97 million of whom will automatically receive an absentee ballot or an absentee ballot request form in the mail, according to a tally by The Washington Post.
It's a long article, and these are four admittedly cherry picked paragraphs. It's worth reading the entire article if you can. Hope that helps.
Saw somebody earlier who was looking for verification of the number of sorting machines involved. 👆 Found it.

(317 posts)....but thought a few weeks ago it was reported the Repubs were bringing in Rove because there was a mention in whatever I was reading that Rove in the past said if you can get the polls to show 4-5 point race, it's easy to steal.

(6,811 posts)I have been saying this since 2004 and Ohio.
They don't mess with small rural counties.
In small rural counties in Ohio in 2004 Bush lost 6% over his 2000 totals,
but in the major population areas he GAINED 7%.
There was a math professor at University of Kansas who showed it as well,
Democrats losing votes in major popuation areas that are democratic.
The reason for that is there are more and enough votes there to switch.
In small counties and precincts you would not be able to steal enough to make a difference.
That is the tell every time. maybe Katie Porter will finally look into it.
No other establishment democrat has ever questioned it.

(8,918 posts)So they only really have to flip 3.5% or less if the election is within 7%.
Easy example, if a Dem candidate received 2 votes and a Rep candidate received 2 votes,
then flipping 1 Dem vote would equate to a 3-1 voting margin in favor of the Rep candidate,
now with a 2 vote lead.
To find out how many votes to flip, just subtract the trailing votes from the leading votes.
Then divide that number by 2
Finally, add 1.
(D) 25,000 votes (51.02%)
(R) 24,000 votes (48.98%)
(D)'s win with 2.04% margin
Now apply equation
25,000 - 24,000 = 1000/2 = 500+1 = 501 = 1.02%.
Flip 501 votes
(R) 24,501 (50%)
(D) 24,499 (50%)
The (R)'s win again by 2 votes.

(14,565 posts)That jumped out at immediately when I saw this map two nights ago.
Also the California areas may seem irrelevant to presidential result but that is designed to rescue very tight House races that switched hands in 2018 but are vulnerable to returning the other way unless that national margin is 7 or 8 or above.

(41,832 posts)to ask questions of the Post Master General DeJoy.... What kind of powers does Congress have in this age of Trump, is the Republican Senate going to fall in line , hoping Trump will steal another election?
This shit scares me.. San Francisco has a BULLS-EYE on that map... maybe because we collectively gave him the finger when he decided not to give disaster money for all the major fires in the state a few years back..
i JUST hope my mailbox has not been removed or LOCKED...damn, maybe I better check.
