Up to 300 Pizza Hut restaurants will be closed, most of them dine-in locations not well suited for carryout and delivery at a time when millions of people are sheltering and eating at home.
Pizza sales have exploded during the pandemic. Domino's last month reported a 30% spike in quarterly profits. On Monday it said that it was hiring more than 20,000 people to handle surging orders.
More at link. I've never been a big fan, but there goes another American institution, thanks to tRump virus. 🤬 alnd la lot of jobs!

(17,863 posts)Pizza Hut had opted out of dining in in our area. They closed and moved across the street to a another take out location with a smaller footprint and newer building.
Interesting enough the new Dominoes added dining in to their location at the same time (of course they are next to the campus).

(5,177 posts)and I've never seen a Pizza Hut where you couldn't eat in.
I've noted many of the chains remodeling some locations, while others were closed, before the virus. I'd bet the remodeled locations have the best chance to stay open.

(17,863 posts)Not a lot of seating but definitely more than a counter. It is not open now though.

(2,187 posts)And all their iconic-roofed restaurants are re-named now. It's almost weird to see a Pizza Hut restaurant that is STILL a Pizza Hut !

(14,565 posts)I still enjoy eating in once in a while, including the buffet. In fact, I had the Pizza Hut buffet just a few days before quarantine happened. It was excellent, largely because that buffet always includes veggie lovers pan which is my favorite. Cici's had eliminated veggie from the buffet in favor of one mega-meat after another.

(66,389 posts)They have a daily lunch pizza and salad buffet. I just don't know if anyone shows up for it anymore.
Pizza Hut was one of my grandson's first jobs. I used to drive him to his shifts.
He has a much better job now, and he bought his own car. He's doing well for a twenty year-old...

(13,603 posts)The whole dine-in pizza business model has been declining for almost 20 years. The few successful pizza shops I've seen lately (pre-pandemic) that had dine-in service had about two small tables that you bussed yourself. Delivery + takeout is virtually 100% of their income.
HotTeaBag
(1,206 posts)Pizza Hut's main MO has always been dine-in and they didn't make the change-over to delivery until too late in the game.
Kind of a shame really - I've always found it neat to go to one every once in a while.

(14,565 posts)Many employees and managers post in that subreddit. This topic has shown up several times, that hundreds of dine-in locations were scheduled to close by 2022, due to the realities of the industry.
