I just mailed a package worth 8K

I just mailed a package-fully insured, half way across the USA, security pack hand to hand with no other contact delivery guarantee. It was small and under 1lb.

Guess how much that service cost-
$38.00

I love the US Postal System and have always gotten excellent service value.

Here's what it was....

He ordered a part for his model Spitfire that he's building from a model store in NC and they sent it to him in Surrey, England. It took a long time to come. He contacted the Royal Mail, they claimed to have no knowledge of it. He then contacted the USPS who advised that the Royal Mail did indeed have it, it was sitting in their pre-customs warehouse somewhere. Armed with this info, he then called the Royal Mail back and after some escalation admitted they had the package all along. He got it two days later.

As such, my dad is a fan of the United States Postal Service, because he was amazed that they knew where his package was even though it was in the UK, in the hands of the Royal Mail - and the Royal Mail didn't have a clue. As an aside, the Royal Mail is partly privatised.

Ever since the delivered a birthday card to my wife from an elderly aunt. The envelope was addressed like this

Mrs Midnightwalk
Small City, USA

We lived in the county not the city and at that point it had over 500K people. Our name is kind of unique, but this was before most people did internet searches.

It was sent from over 2000 miles away and it got delivered in a reasonable amount of time.

To this day I’m impressed.
