Joe Kennedy III @joekennedy
I never got to meet my grandfather. I know him through my fathers pride. My aunts and uncles stories. My grandmothers mischievous memories. And I know him through his words.

His Grandfather is one of my biggest heroes.

(8,301 posts)If he wanted to match his grandfathers legacy, he would move his policies to the left and join the squad. IMHO

(804 posts)I was a freshman at the University of NM and he spoke to a huge crowd of about 13,000 people at Zimmerman Field at UNM in March of 1968. Several friends and I had great seats and we were privileged to hear him speak on his campaign tour as he was running for the Democratic Presidential nomination. I can't help but wonder how the course of history was altered in the moment he was assassinated in that hotel in Los Angeles. As I listened to his speech, I remember thinking that this man would win the Presidency and would change the world. In the midst of Vietnam war protests, civil unrest and the assassination of Martin Luther King, his message of hope and healing was powerful. In many ways, Joe Biden's candidacy reminds me of those days. Joe is the right man to heal this nation at this critical hour in our nation's history.

(14,912 posts)... I was hoping to see him when he would have campaigned in NYS's Primary.
I was a Junior in HS.
Fifty-two years later it still cuts deep.

(22,264 posts)There would not have been a Nixon presidency for one thing.

(14,912 posts)No Nixon, no Watergate!
Hopefully Bobby would have brought the Vietnam War to an end quicker as he intended to.
He was one of the few people who could speak to working class whites, Appalachian poor, most African Americans, migrant workers (thinking of Caeser Chavez), middle class etc. Sigh.

(804 posts)When we could still see friends several months ago, my husband and I had dinner with a couple that we had been friends with for a while. As his wife and I were talking, I discovered she was one of the Freedom Riders that traveled to the deep south to assist African Americans with voter registration and tutoring. She was a student at the University of Wisconsin at the time. Such a small world. I have come to realize that those of us who lived through the 60's were witness to a huge shift in the consciousness of our nation. It feels to me that we are approaching an even more consequential moment that will surely impact the future not only of our country, but ultimately of the planet.

Yeah, it could be - another shift first back to sanity and compassion, and then onward to a better America.

(22,264 posts)staying in his Congressional seat and rising in seniority for a while would have been better.
Since he will be out of office, maybe he will end up as one of Joe's cabinet officers or some other influential position.
