Those caving Democrats have failed us again.
They have invited not one but four Republicans to speak at OUR CONVENTION! Four out of hundreds of Democrats. FOUR! They are going to take over our plarform because we are so weak. They are going to push RW talking points during Our Convention. They plan to assert control over our convention.
Get a grip.
Do I trust Repubs as a whole? No I do not. Not even close, however I will applaud any vote against trump. If they can turn 100 votes our way tonight, that is a good thing. A well respected Senator said much the same and was applauded to welcome them into our big tent. Now with Biden, not so much.
Not sure where people are at these days, what they are thinking. We do not need division right now. To sow it is going to prove even more fatal than where we stand now. We have 170K dead, by election day, with schools opening then slamming their doors shut within days of opening will have us well over 200K American bodies in graves.
Let's try to get it right by all working together. Not much time left.
TIC TOC.

(23,322 posts)repukes could speak at our convention. If this were a live event, theyd be booed off the stage. Not speaking to whether or not they should have been invited...Im sure there will be a ton of opinion on that tonight.

I neither approve nor disapproveI dont judge. I trust the campaign media people, theyve done a great job so far with the VP rollout and the first-to-market convention. Four Republicans doesnt bother me, Im curious to see if it works.
Which is what makes Democrats a better political partybeing liberal/progressive means taking some chances. Its exciting, diverse, and a crazy cast of characters. Its our strength, and it works.
Like Will Rogers said, I dont belong to an organized political party, Im a Democrat!

Swallow any misgivings and fear and go out there and take it to the traitorous cabal of grifters that compromises the majority of the repub party today. And if any of them see the light, welcome them with open arms and restore our democracy.

(28,079 posts)Everyone here used think Kasich was an asshole. He opposes women making their own medical decisions, he supports a balanced budget amendment (to name a couple items). Just because Trump makes him sound sane and just because he doesn't support Trump doesn't mean he isn't still an asshole.
Same with the Lincoln Project - great ads and they may help. But the people behind them are still Republicans.
Not one of these people is willing to admit that Trump was the natural outcome of 40 years of telling the public that "greed is good", "the only person who matters is me" and courting the rascist/sexist/xenophobic/homophobic vote.
So fine, let 4 of them speak at the convention, just so long as we aren't lulled into thinking any of them have seen the light. Think of them as our "useful idiots".
MyOwnPeace

63. What does John Kasich speaking at the DNC have to do with Nina Turner?
strawman.
You said above he is a piece of shit. IMHO so is Nina. He votes for a republican and she votes for Jill Stein. At least John is honest and votes for his party.
Last I checked Nina Turner wasn't on the roster to speak. So I still don't get the relevance.
sheshe2
(83,791 posts)So, now that we are talking....what do you think of Nina voting for Stein?
jcgoldie
(11,631 posts)I think Nina Turner is a self promoting asshole who's ego seems to have subverted any ideology she claimed to believe in. I can't stand what she did in 2016 and I think she's completely irrelevant now. I still have no idea what she has to do with this debate over John Kasich.

I don't like Republicans and won't vote for one. Never have. Probably never will. But at this point in time, if they want to support our candidate instead of Trump, who can blame them? I damn sure won't. I welcome them to our big tent and to our convention.
NO TIME for division. NO time for pettiness. Just STOP. We can not do that. Not now. OUR LIVES and the Democratic Republic itself is at stake in this election. And somebody wants to grouse about a few Republicans joining us to save ourselves and our country? I'm fine with that.

(360 posts)comes mainly from a small segment of progressives of a certain persuasion. Having Republicans and Centrist Independents supporting Biden pulverizes their ability to extort concessions under a threat of "if we don't get our way, we will stay home or vote third party.". It weakens them considerably and they lament not having that power over the Democratic party as a whole.
jcgoldie
(11,631 posts)I haven't seen a single person threatening to vote third party or stay home. What complete nonsense. "Progressives of a certain persuasion?" You mean like people who believe strongly in values like women's rights and in expressing dissent over the issue of having lifelong right wing zealots speak at the DNC? Is that the persuasion you speak of? Or what is it exactly?
sheshe2
(83,791 posts)Did you know how they were thinking in 2016?
Did you know that Sarandon. Nina and Brie Brie voted third party. Did you know that someone said that it didn't matter who they voted for. It only mattered that they voted. These were supposed Democrats. Period.
jcgoldie
(11,631 posts)In the Democratic Party that I've voted for my entire life and believe in strongly, a person can and should be able to express dissent over having a person with the decidedly misogynistic record of John Kasich stand up there and speak "for us."
sheshe2

The answer is no.
jcgoldie
(11,631 posts)And I haven't heard a single person say that they think this reflects on Joe Biden or any other Democrat who is. You are the person who made the OP about "sewing division". I remember everything these assholes said about us during the Clinton years and when Dumbya was screwing the pooch calling us unpatriotic anti-Americans.
I don't give a flying fuck that they're now not welcome in their own party because they are "polite white nationalists". They can go cry to their old buddy Newt Gingrich about it. He's the one who started what Trump finished.

With Trump cheating and trying to keep people from getting their votes to the places to be counted like he is, we need all the extra votes we can get. (96 posts)Wasn't the problem with Kasich that he decided to tell Democrats that the progressives in the party don't represent the party? I think that AOC's response that he doesn't get to tell Democrats who represents the party is correct. While I don't see that many progressives posting here on DU, progressives still seem to advocate policies that most Americans want. I understand that you might lift up a regressive Republican governor who plans to vote with Democrats for president as a way to get other Republicans to vote against Trump, but is it worth it to create a rift between progressive Democrats and Third Way Democrats in order to make your point? You disparage progressives that abandon the party as if they represent all progressives. They don't, but I've seen enough Bernie bashing on this site to convince me that you not only take progressive votes for granted; you have to abuse them as well.

(1,979 posts)It probably took allot for them to come forth and do this and, if it opens up the eyes of on-the-fence republicans to vote for Joe, then it is worth it. I'm tired of the division. I wish the country was 100% democrat but the reality is that it is much more evenly matched than I can even imagine. We need such an overwhelming win that there is absolutely no doubt what the majority of this country wants as our path forward. I believe if we can look to the positive and get out the vote, we will win this thing and start the healing of the UNITED States of America.
