I can't recall if either of them spoke in 2012. If W didn't speak in 2012, I'd guess that was Romney's choice, not his. He was still pretty unpopular then.

...when they want to invoke what is (to them) a supposedly inspiring example of a past Republican president.

And as much as I disliked Reagan, he still wasn't anywhere near as awful as the Republican party has become. He'd never make it through a Republican primary for dogcatcher these days. He didn't foam at the mouth nearly enough.

of "greed is good, I'm the only one who matters". As wells as ramping up the "southern strategy".

Trump is the natural outcome of the path they have been on since Ronnie. Pity even the ones who realize Trump was going to far won't admit that.

...the Republican party now espouses, but he still followed a lot of the norms of conduct we should be able to expect from a President. He seemed like a doddering old fool to me, but was an articulate, thoughtful scholar compared to Trump.

and is mentally like a child and that's why Michelle is nice to him.

But even without that he wouldn't be speaking at this one . Because there is Jeb and others from the Bush family that could still represent but they wont.
