For the second time recently,

I was driving up my street, getting ready to turn left into my driveway. My turn signal was on, and I was on the correct side of the street. As I always do, I looked in my mirror to make sure nobody was behind me coming up the street before making the turn. As I looked, a white SUV sped past me on my left, doing about 45 mph. Since I was checking my rear, I did not turn into the car.

Another white SUV did the same thing in the same situation a couple of months ago. It could have been the same one. I don't know.

Why am I writing this? It's a cautionary post. Always be sure to check behind you before turning left into your driveway. There could easily be an impatient driver who speeds by on your left, despite your turn signal and slow speed.

Scary stuff.

everyone is driving so recklessly, they’re to impatient, and are driving over the posted speed limit, and JUST TO FAST FOR CONDITIONS. Or is it just me??? and it is scary out there.

I'm sure the SUV driver was annoyed that I was delaying him, somehow. Speed limit on residential streets is 25 mph, but traffic goes by at 40-45 mph all the time. My plan is to come home in a different direction from now on, so I'll be turning right into my driveway. Had I turned, the SUV would have totaled my 2020 Soul. Sobering.

doesn't care/have the experience or drugged up/drunk, or just an idiot driver, who probably has (or is close to it) lots of points on their driver's license, it shouldn't be a reflection of all of society. Too bad that they weren't caught on camera and the police notified. This is definitely reckless and I'm glad no one got hurt.

what the driver did was very, very dangerous. So, I'm going to change how I drive home from now on, and approach my driveway so I can make a right turn into it from now on. That's no big deal for me. I'm just not going to risk it again.

Most people here tend to drive in the middle of our neighborhood streets, and don't like to move to the right if there is an oncoming car. I think they don't really know where the right side of their car is in relationship to the cars parked on the road, so they drive right down the center of the street. Weird. There is plenty of room for two cars, even if there are cars parked on both sides, but people will not move to the right.

it does). Where I am at, they drive in the middle of the street too, but I think that this is due to the city streets having cars parked on both sides of the street 100% (usually there isn't enough off street parking), and some people either are too nervous to drive 100% on their side thus would prefer to drive in the middle of the street. The streets are mostly pretty narrow too, this doesn't help either.

If they want to drive down the middle of the neighborhood street, that's okay, as long as they get back over on their side if someone on the other side of the road approaches them, i.e., share the road obviously.

Problem is, is when the streets are too narrow and there really isn't anymore room / space on that particular street, then someone must pull over so the other vehicle can get by. I will usually pull over and wait the other driver goes by (or if they pull over, I do the same).

If a spot is not available for either of the two of us to pull over...then we both have to slow down and crawl past each other (but it still works, and we both get to our destination).

Of course, some people are just idiots and inconsiderate towards others on the road. An unfortunate part of driving. As long as they don't hurt someone.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with impatient drivers, MM.

When we moved here many years ago we were shocked at the utter lack of mercy of the drivers. Using a turn signal is considered a sign of weakness. And in the current savage climate created by the Orange Traitor, it's worse.

Last night about 50 motorcyclists blocked traffic on Rt. 270 near Frederick MD doing wheelies and burnouts, whatever those are. Today's Washington Post reported that someone called the police after hearing gunshots, and police later found shell casings in the area. The bikers dispersed by the time the cops got there.

And in my community, people in low riders, motorcycles, etc. and other noisy, muffler-less cars speed and race at all hours. It got intolerable when the virus lockdown began. I know they are letting off steam, but it's gotten out of hand.

We've complained to the police. Lots of people have complained. The police for some reason aren't able to deal with it and tell us they are frustrated too. They say we need speed cameras. I've begged traffic enforcement for a speed camera for a couple of years. They put one up in front of the middle school for a week or two, then removed it. That was in 2018.

Now we're told to hassle the county executive for a camera. Half the dinky little country roads in the very affluent part of the county have speed cameras, but a local highway with a school and residential neighborhoods is allowed to become a speedway.

Sorry for the long rant. But you are right, too many people are driving badly.
