I've been thinking that the Republicans, having seen how good this convention was,

might scrap some of their own plans to try to copy some of what the Democrats did.

If they do, that will make their show worse because it would be even more rushed together than it already was. Plus it would be called out as an obvious copycat attempt.

probably a l'il pissy tonight because of the Dems' fireworks display. I had read a couple of days ago that he was planning fireworks over the Mall, and now Joe beat him to it. If Chump goes on to have them, he'll either look like the copier, or he'll be screaming bloody murder that Joe stole his idea.

that was behind it all. All they have is hate and divisiveness.

Dems accepted early on that a virtual convention was probable. Thanks to trump, Repub plans were chaotic and constantly changing.

Either way, it will be a hate-fest. It's all they have left.

I will get a recap on the low-lites and commentary.

I suspect that the looks on the faces of MSNBC's regulars will not be smiles, but scowls and head scratching as to what the hell just happened.

might tune in out of curiosity, if they start out dark and dystopian, with nothing but crude, grim lies spewed ad nauseam, I predict they will lose most of their audience. They've already lost me and I can not imagine there will be much tolerance beyond the initial curiosity. Bad ratings would surely be the "death" of him.

8. If they do, they're going to have problems

First, if they do the roll-call like the dems did... Now they do have non-white people in their party, but how much are they going to showcase them? Don't want to turn off Trump's hardcore base of racists.

Second, the speeches. One of the PBS pundits noted how the speeches were not typical convention speeches as there were no applause lines (and thus no applause). They were compelling though, and that is partly because of the writing and partly because we have very good speakers on our side. Will they attempt that, or will Trump at least have a small gathering? Normally, he at least needs some people to play to, but if he decides he needs to go the "gravitas" route, he'll fail. He's not used to not having (nasty) applause lines, and even without them, he doesn't like staying on script. Pence is also used to this to a degree although there's footage of his applause lines falling flat and his looking uncomfortable.

Third, what the hell is the personal history of Trump and Pence going to be like? Joe and Kamala were compelling even if the biographies are cleaned up a little as they always are. How is a positive spin going to be put on them? Will what they think is positive (Pence fought against teh gayz!) be positive to the rest of the country? Etc.

I'm kind of looking forward to it.

9. You presume that Republicans saw a good convention.

That’s a risky presumption. I think Republicans saw a bad convention full of evil Libbruls with no applause.

They look at a dog and see an aardvark. Their perception is completely skewed from our own.

outlet such as TV. I can only imagine a few musical presentations by fading country "stars", nothing in other performing art, nothing truly creative (when they try this you get Clint Eastwood arguing with a chair), maybe some minor actor quoting the immortal writings of Robert E. Lee.

So we'll get angry screeds by hysterical republican office holders. Their audience will certainly get their fill of hate. resentment, and whining.

..."Oh, thank God! Now we have some kind of idea what this should look like!"

If they pull off anything better than a shitshow, it'll be because they had a template to guide them.

11. The major obstacle they will be dealing with is TRUMP.
Fri Aug 21, 2020, 02:22 PM
Aug 2020

They will be constrained as to what they do because Trump needs the ENTIRE convention to focus on him and pump him up, and feed his fragile ego.

I am sure that the planners are trying to figure out logistics and all, and Trump is just bombarding them with irrational and impossible demands. If it is a shit show it will be because Trump has made it so.

His fragile ego cannot handle if he is not the center of attention and if things are not done exactly as he wants them.

THEN, when he messes up by giving a horrific speech, or tripping and falling, or soiling himself on national television, he will blame everybody but himself.
