Trump Reportedly Considers Fast-Tracking Unproven British Vaccine Before Election

President Donald Trump is considering bypassing standard testing procedures to push an unproven British COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S. in time for the presidential election, the Financial Times reported.

The British vaccine is being developed in partnership between pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and Oxford University. Trump is considering pressuring the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to issue an “emergency use authorization” for the British vaccine in October, the FT reported, citing unnamed sources. AstraZeneca said it hasn’t discussed such an order with the Trump administration.

Trump, his poll numbers sagging amid his administration’s mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic, has been touting unproven treatments ahead of the election regardless of the possible health risks.

3. Even if they approved it, there's no way they could scale it up. A friend of mine has a big Pharma

job here, and said that the Trump administration are putting savage pressure on them to give all their test kits to the US, that they have in production, and screw the rest of the world. They've resisted the pressure and given it on a fair apportionment basis.

5. For most of these vaccines in development, they are already in production even though their

complete safety and efficacy has not been established, because the phase 3's either haven't started, or are still enrolling people.

After that is complete, it will then take time to evaluate the data

For some of the vaccines in development they also require a booster one month after the initial vaccine.

Whether they want to rush it or not, it is going to take some time to complete the phase 3 studies, and then evaluate the results

Unless trump tries to pull a Russian implementation, where they release the vaccine before they know if it is effective or completely safe, it will be difficult to happen before the end of the year

No credible doctor, except "peter navaro", (sarcasm), will sign onto any vaccine that has not completed phase 3, and demonstrated safety and efficacy

Trump doesn't give a shit whether anyone gets protected against the virus, or if he puts them at risk from an insufficiently-tested injection; what he cares about is an election talking point - "I got the vaccine available in record time!!!". It wouldn't matter if was actually available or not. He just needs friendly media to say that it is. This is about fooling the gullible, not public health.
