Is there any real journalistic justification for covering the Republican convention?

It would be unprecedented not to cover it, and this is not at all the typical "bothsidesism" case.

But given that Republican Party made Donnie the nominee by fiat -- some states didn't even have a Republican primary -- there zero news in him winning the nomination.

Democrats knew Biden would win, but there was a legitimate contest, Bernie was nominated and collected many votes at the convention. We had a news story, they don't.

Now they've also refused to even try to pass a platform. So there's no news to be had there, either.

So it's down to a 4-day Republican infomercial that once again, the media will cover for free. I won't deny promotional elements if the democratic convention, but legitimate news happened there as well.

Donnie has corrupted yet another institution and event, and the media can't see what's happening. It's no longer a news event worth covering, there nothing left but infomercial. They'll cover it as if it was a legitimate news event, based on the argument that it had been a legitimate news event in the past.

But it's not this time around. The only news story is that there is no news there, and they shouldn't show his infomercial for free

They don't put every car crash on the national news either. Too damn many of them.

A single camera and sound recording, taping everything that is virtual.

There would be point to covering it if it were being fact-checked in real time....

Are we really going to allow them to broadcast 16 hours a day of this shit without raising holy fucking hell about it?

The media barely covers the actual electoral college meetings, and that's where the president is formally elected.
