"NEW: Former RNC chair Michael Steele announces role as senior advisor with Project Lincoln"

Anti-Trump group hires former RNC chair Michael Steele (CNN)

(CNN)Former chairman of the Republican National Committee Michael Steele is joining the Lincoln Project, a group of Republicans working to prevent President Donald Trump's re-election.

"Today is the day where things should matter and you need to take stock of what matters to you -- and the kind of leader you want to lead in these moments. And for me, it ain't him," Steele, a political analyst for MSNBC said making the announcement to host Nicole Wallace on Monday afternoon.
Steele was the first African American to be elected to statewide office in Maryland, serving as lieutenant governor from 2003 to 2007. He was also the first African American to serve as chairman of the RNC.

"I get my role as a former national chairman. I get it, but I'm an American. I get my role as a former party leader. I'm still an American," Steele told Wallace, adding, "And these things matter to me more than aligning myself with a party that has clearly decided it would rather be sycophantic than principled."

2. Saw this on Nicolle's show. What a world, I remember when Michael Steele was evil.

Remember the "Fire Pelosi bus tour"? That was just 10 years ago. He used to be vehemently pro-choice. He used to be pro-border control. He had a 12-step plan for defeating the Obama agenda.

I'm not saying we should trust him or anything, just kind of bizarre how far some people have come. Thanks, trump I guess?

and not to undermine The Lincoln Project. Wonder if he's taking George Conway's spot since he said he's stepping down to make more time for his family.

4. My first thought was hoping he wasn't doing this to try to get them to water down their strong ads

especially the undermine concern. I still don't trust him in any respect. I'll wait and see if the Lincoln Project ads get better given his ex-insider knowledge

... "These evangelical <leaders> are the biggest phonies of all" ...

Steele went on, "These are the people who spent the last forty years telling everyone how to live, who to love, what to think about morality. And then this motherf---er comes along defiling the White House and disrespecting God's children at every turn, but it's cool, because he gave them two Supreme Court justices. They got their thirty pieces of silver"...

"Just shut the hell up and don't ever preach to me about anything ever again. I don't want to hear it"...

Steele helped build the Repugs and was the face to "prove" they weren't racist—which they have been since Nixon. Complete opportunistic phony.

Really really really don't trust this slick Neo-con.

of helping Democrats.

They have made clear they hate Trump and want to destroy Trump/ Trumpism.

Maybe they will go back to supporting Republicans once Trump is gone but I really don't care then.
