America's pullback on travel has put its airports on a runway to financial ruin

At Denver International Airport, the terminal and concourse windows rarely get washed, and the snow-removal budget has shrunk to the point that airport CEO Kim Day is counting on divine intervention this winter.

“I don’t want to use the term gamble … we’ve reduced the contract for snow this year, and we’re praying we don’t get a horrible year,” Day said.

Denver whacked $50 million from its operating and maintenance costs in response to revenue’s nose dive during the coronavirus pandemic. The same is happening on tarmacs throughout America.

Because of Covid-19, total losses among domestic airports are expected to be around $23.3 billion from March 2020, when the virus shuttered the economy, through the end of 2021, according to Airports Council International.

Our business is in mostly FBOs and private aviation but if this kind of damage is felt at the top, we'll feel it in the middle and at the bottom.
