MA-SEN: Joe Kennedy, facing death threats, gets beefed up security on campaign trail

U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy III, locked in an increasingly ugly race against U.S. Sen. Edward Markey, is now getting beefed up security protection on the campaign trail because of threats directed toward him, his family and supporters.

Campaign officials — who have demanded Markey condemn the threats — confirmed the upped security presence at Kennedy’s events in Massachusetts.

“Capitol Police is coordinating with local law enforcement to provide increased security at all of Joe’s public events,” a campaign spokesperson said.

Kennedy’s grandfather Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated while campaigning for president in Los Angeles in 1968, and his great uncle former President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963 in Dallas.

I some people are upset with him for primarying Markey, in fact I'm not very happy about it myself, but this is just insane! I'm voting for Markey, but at least they are both in the same party!

Unless, of course, it's mobsters making the threats. Then it makes a little more sense.
