Two years ago, we lost a genuine American hero, and to me, a true friend. John McCain never stopped pushing me and our nation to be better. I miss him dearly.

(6,035 posts)But he always did what he thought was right for the country. Unlike most foregin policy hawks he actually served. I learned in the HBO movie about his life that he and Joh Kerry were major players in normalizing relations with Vietnam.
He also picked the two men who defeated him in his presidential campaigns to eulogize him at his funeral.
I truly miss having a Republican who you would disagree with him pretty much every issue but you could still respect.
Me.

(25,868 posts)Starting with divorcing his first wife because she was maimed in a car accident. Lying to his second wife about his actual marital status. Buying a new home and moving out of his actual Congressional district in Phoenix (not the poshest part of town) several months before he declared he was running for the Senate, which would mean he could live anywhere at all in the state.
Those are the behaviors of a hypocrite and dishonest person.
People here have all too often mistaken McCain for some kind of liberal, which he never was.
It's nice that Joe Biden was able to be friends with him, but Joe simply overlooked a lot.
