Alaska Attorney General (R) resigns after disclosure of text messages

Alaska Attorney General Kevin G. Clarkson resigned Tuesday following the publication of an Anchorage Daily News and ProPublica investigation showing he sent hundreds of “uncomfortable” texts to a junior state employee.

The resignation follows a story reporting that Clarkson sent 558 text messages to a young employee whose job required that she sometimes interact with the attorney general. In at least 18 messages he invited the woman to come to his home.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy said in an email Tuesday morning he had accepted Clarkson’s resignation.

“This administration has and always will expect the highest level of professional conduct in the workplace,” a statement from Dunleavy said. “There is nothing more important than the protection of our state employees, and that includes feeling safe when an employee is at work.

Over a 27-day span, the attorney general asked the woman to come to his house at least 18 times, often punctuating the messages with kiss emoji and comments about the much-younger woman’s beauty.

The attorney general texted the woman at all hours of the day and evening, sometimes from his state office, until she sent him a message in early April asking him to respect professional boundaries and saying she doesn’t accept late-night calls on her personal phone.

On March 16, Clarkson wrote to the state employee: “You’re beautiful ... sweet dreams. 😘 Sorry to bother you.” The day after that he texted, “So what are you doing sweet lady?” And the day after that: “Always nice to see you beautiful lady ... You have to find a way to say yes and come over and let me cook for you.”

IT's still completely inappropriate and harassing. 558 texts to an employee he only has some professional interaction with?

I'm a near-retirement woman with a much younger gay boss (I'm saying this just to say there is really no possibility that he would be sexually harassing me, not that I hasten to add that he would with any employee!).
And if my boss texted me 558 times, even to say, "How's it going?", I would consider it harassment. Good grief, let me do my work! (My boss actually has never texted me, thank goodness.)

But he's resigning anyway. The story doesn't explicitly say it, but it seems that the texts Clarkson says were so innocent have still not seen the light of day. Given that he's a Republican and resigned while denying any wrongdoing, the Magic 8 Ball* says, "There's more to come."

*No, not that kind of 8 ball, Don Jr.! Down boy.

What part of "Do not leave evidence" and "Never put anything in writing you don't want to see on the Front Page of the New York Times" do they not understand?

And this is not a new thing. People have been putting incriminating evidence into letters and sending them for centuries.

I'm sure that entitlement is apart of the blondness, but it can't be the only thing, can it? Some people simply never learn.
