It featured people who love Trump, people who really love Trump, people who sport Trump leg tats, and people who will likely beat you to death if you keep looking skunk-eyed at their MAGA hat, ya filthy peckerwood. Calling it cult-like barely covers it. This is a convention about one man.
Its philosophy is adoration. Its principles are obedience and subservience. Its leader isnt a small or big-r republican; hes the con man who formed a cult that got bigger than he dreamed. This is a celebration of a morally vacant man inhabiting the decaying corpse of the GOP like some eternally hungry parasite. His adherents and votaries will stand at the podium, blinking slowly and praying they dont drop a single line of praise of the Dear Leader from their remarks.
Last night set the fire. Tonight should be worse, because if theres one thing we know in the age of Trump, it can always get worse.

(1,702 posts)the only personal positive future for the #TrumpCrimeFamily will be their forever crying "we lost because the election was rigged, we were cheated". That will be the basis for their new splinter party, the "tRUMP Party". They will milk this theme for every penny they can con out of his base. They will have no shame and use the rigged/cheated as their shield and justification for a crushing defeat. (IF we VOTE).
They will appeal to their base for funds to defend themselves from NYAG and others. They will live the richest lives possible on the backs of their Cult45 ers.
They MUST be defeated then pursued to the gates of Hell and held accountable.
(rant over, sorry)

(2,039 posts)As you say, they will continue to waste their money on Dear Leader for the rest of Trump's obnoxious life. Just think how much money the Trumps will make off speaking engagements alone! Someone should point that out to Trump. Maybe if he realized he could make a million dollars just to show up and spew his usual idiocy for an hour or so to an adoring crowd of his fans, he might just resign to go on a nation-wide speaking tour. Then again, probably not, the very real threat of ending up in prison once he steps foot out of the White House must be weighing very heavily on his pea-brain right now.
Lock him up.

(13,058 posts)to go after him. He will have a lot of resources and he will sink all of those resources into slowing down the legal process to a snail's pace. The idea will be to slow the legal process down so that it will carry over to the next administration which they hope might be more friendly to Trump. And he will have those right wing ideologue judges that he nominated to the bench there to help him.

(14,566 posts)long odds that justice has the sand in the shorts to do what needs to be done IF we can get him out of there, and if he does try it will take a damn long time to get it done.

(4,461 posts)... dont think the base will continue to support him once hes out of power and is reduced to a screeching banshee on Twitter. They are fickle. Hell be a loser at that point. And all of his political cover and interference will gone. No one will be tending him and cleaning up his messes. And the $/power interests will abandon him quickly - hed no longer be a useful idiot to them.
So if he does speaking engagements, Ill be places like the VFW local in Scranton, and the monthly bingo game at the Villages. Theres not going to be a lot of money there. Even Mara Lago will dry up. Would anyone spend the money and time courting his favor? I suspect hes the kind of person everyone secretly hates being around unless theres something in it for them.
He might mount a comeback campaign for 2024, but I think by then so many glaring flaws will be exposed that his base would shrink by half.

Not going to have the value once his supporters don't have to rent rooms at inflated prices or don't even get used.

Elegant, tasteful and intelligent.

(10 posts)What you are seeing here has a high possibility of becoming the norm throughout the country.
I'd take this as a harbinger of the future if Trump stays in il/legally.
And they don't seem to be shy about signalling what the makeup of the country will look like if they got their hands on full control over the country.
I'd say this is a warning; the good news is that they are signalling everything. And they probably aren't paying attention to what the Democrats are up to (why should they? they are going to win, so you don't need to have a Plan B, because Plan A is 100% foolproof!)
The SWOT analysis of November onwards in DNC headquarters must be gigantic at this point ....

(7,365 posts)Hoping to take over Dem Party. He is right in a lot of areas here, but no need to "attack the left", progressive policies are what made the Democratic Party what it is, not selling out to corporate interests.
I am glad Rick and Schmidt and Kasich are happy with Dems these days, but if they ran the show would they unleash rampant exploitation under the name of corporate freedom? Wage more war? Restrict access to health care?
To me it's about policies. I realize you can't run a far-left agenda, but it now appears we are running a "we are not him" agenda. Clinton did it and it didn't work. I do think it will work much better this time, because we see Trump in all his glory and Biden is really a likable guy.
However, this is the far-rights dream, to have the Democratic Party essentially a "moderate wing" of their own party, where they can still call us left wing commies moving the window further and further to the right until Ronald Reagan policies fit in better with our party, since the Republican Party will be full blown fascist by that point.
In short, when progressive leaders are chastised and Republican talking heads are celebrated it tells me THEY are winning, even if Joe does win the White House this year.

(89,259 posts)complain are the ones who truly want Trump to win.
Many of us can see clearly through their bullshit hiding behind claims of wanting progress while supporting candidates who have done nothing to ever bring about any progress.
Biden and Harris are liberals who have a record of Progress.
