If they have to count to the last damn ballot, do not concede.
I agree with that. It's also a good warning: DON'T FUCK WITH THIS ELECTION!

(2,276 posts)For the record, Im still angry about the Supreme Court Bush vs Gore decision 20 years ago. The difference is that Democrats respect laws and judicial decisions and Repubs dont. Its hard to run an honest election when only one side plays by the rules.

(2,276 posts)The US Supreme Court decided, in a highly partisan 5-4 decision, to halt the Florida vote counting, thereby declaring W Bush the President. It was such an obviously political decision that the court noted the ruling could not be used as the basis for future rulings. Gore had no choice at that point, no further options. Worst Supreme Court decision in US history.

(7,510 posts)Isn't it up to the election authority, such as the Secretary of State for the state holding the election to declare who won?
I thought conceding was only done as a social courtesy in elections where the result is indisputable and not in any doubt, largely as an occasion for the defeated candidate to thank all of their workers, voters, and contributors?

(2,336 posts)Does not matter if the other side already conceded. That'd be like saying because someone concedes, it's tough luck if it's found in a few days after counting ALL ballots that they actually would have won. Does not work that way. Conceding is simply a courtesy.
