It was a mostly maskless crowd, which intermittently chorused the phrase four more years in chants from chairs drawn closely together on the South Lawn as President Donald Trump gave his GOP acceptance speech. The absence of social-distancing and flouting of masks seemed to complete the game of make-believe that themed the weeks festivities: that the coronavirus pandemic was a nightmare of moths ago a non-reality.
Thursdays mask-flouting crowd that largely ignored social distancing guidelines has been estimated at 1,500 a gathering far larger than health officials have recommended to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta reported that a senior White House official had swatted away concerns to him earlier in the evening about the lack of social distancing at the Presidents acceptance speech, saying, everybody is going to catch this thing eventually.
The officials remark comes as the coronavirus continues to kills thousands of Americans even as the President and his associates spent the week painting an alternate reality of COVID-19 as either past tense or a very much receding threat.

It knowing these republican assholes won't sleep for the next few weeks wondering if Trump gave them a long suffering Herman Cain death sentence.

(21,965 posts)President Trump reportedly asked Anthony Fauci, the nations leading infectious disease expert and a key member of the White Houses coronavirus task force, whether U.S. officials could allow the coronavirus pandemic to wash over the country, The Washington Post reported.
During a coronavirus task force meeting in the Situation Room last month, on the same day Trump ordered travel to be suspended from the United Kingdom and Ireland in an effort to stem the spread of the virus, Trump reportedly asked Fauci, Why dont we let this wash over the country?

(25,266 posts)Trumper's will begin throwing 'Covid Catch Parties' where they will invite 100's of people - that will not wear masks and not socially distance - for the sheer purpose to contract Covid-19. These will become trendy amongst the Trump supporters.
The slogan will be - 'if you can't beat it - catch it'.
They will stress that the odds are with you to survive Covid. Think of it like going to Vegas. It's a gamble. You might come home a winner and put the pandemic behind you - or - you might lose - get sick - die - and put Covid behind you that way as well.
Last night was the premier of the 'Covid Catch Party'. 1500 to 2000 people were invited to the WH to be able to say that they were at the kick-off event. Most will survive the night and not contract Covid. Some will contract Covid and experience mild symptoms and recover. Some will be hospitalized; recover and go on to live with life lasting chronic problems because of Covid. Some will die - and they will be considered - hmmmm - either one of the lucky ones or one of the unlucky ones - depending on one's political persuasion.
Bottom line though - one way or another - we'll be rid of Covid. Either by 'herd immunity' or 'death'.
Trump can then say - see I told you so - one day Covid will just magically disappear. I was right!!!
Remember - Trump always has to be right.
