WGN America to launch News Nation on Tuesday, aiming to transform the house that Bozo built into the next CNN

WGN America, the erstwhile home to Bozo and Andy Griffith, is set to reinvent itself as a cable news network with the Tuesday launch of News Nation, a prime-time newscast that pledges to deliver unbiased reporting.
The mission is to take a bite out of CNN, MSNBC and Fox News.
Delayed but not derailed by the pandemic, WGN America has assembled a 150-person newsroom and has been making dry runs for several weeks of its nightly three-hour newscasts from extensively remodeled Chicago studios.
Going live amid a health crisis, civil unrest and a polarizing presidential election means the pressure is on News Nation to hit the ground running.
I have a feeling that this will morph into Faux News-lite. Hopefully they can resist all the RW pressures and truly present all the facts all the time.

Worth a shot, since WGN America wasnt worth the money.

(409 posts)I'm going to be very curious to see how "unbiased" they really are.
They were owned by Tribune. There was some kind of deal in place a few years ago for Tribune to sell to Sinclair, but something happened and they ended up in a lawsuit. After that Tribune merged with Nexstar.
If they are smart they will realize that the RW cable news market is saturated with the likes of Fox and OANN. You aren't going to take anything from those folks. Fox has all of the conservatives who haven't gone batshit enough to need to watch OANN for their fix. You can't really go nuttier than OANN to draw anyone either. Their best bet would be to fill the opening for a very non-RW news outlet. Just a station who's only goal is to nail republicans at every turn.
That station, despite what the RWers say, doesn't exist.

(7,510 posts)Like other big companies, they contribute mostly to incumbents on both sides of the aisle.
Lots of their stations are in smaller markets. Many of these would be in conservative areas, but some are in liberal areas, such as Hawaii.
