The police is directly responsible for this. They didn't only allow this escalation by not sending these armed goons back, they actively encouraged and enabled them. If there was a curfew, surely it was for everyone. But no, they threw gasoline into the fire. What were they thinking?

I used to run with state cops back in the 60's when the cops would have a drink with you after their shifts. I played in a golf league with state cops. With that said, I personally knew about 8 of them and 6 of the 8 were racist. With that said, I lived in an area that only had about 1% minority population.

4. A Dangerous Escalation

Cops sympathetic to right-wing nutjobs is a perpetual risk. Why? Because policing requires physical force.

The brains of cops must be the target of de-escalation efforts. And since brains are controlled by peer pressure, protesters must evolve to different methods.

At this stage, they must separate the good cops from the bad cops ideologically. That’s the counterattack right now by Trump—lump in good protesters with bad, lump in good cops with bad.

Accuse Republicans of lumping in bad cops with good, accuse Republicans of painting the police force as a bunch of rogue lawbreakers. Accuse them of exactly what Trump wants police to be—dumb political goons. Ask law enforcement if they like being used as ignorant political goons and see how it changes the conversation.

Allowing anyone to openly carry an assault rifle (or any other firearm IMO) is madness. I'm not sure why anyone overseas would want to risk their life coming to the U.S. even for a visit.
