(10,434 posts)Democrats should take a lesson from some republicon statehouses and make the filibuster elimination temporary.
I'd also eliminate most or all loopholes as well as changing the corporate tax rates, and do the same for billionaires. The free ride they're getting has to end.

a. If you are a US citizen over the age of 18 on election day, you are eligible to vote. Period. It is a federal crime to hinder or intimidate someone from voting, including sending human or robocalls with false information about voting rights or locations or dates. Ten years minimum mandatory sentence.
b. It is a federal crime, punishable by a non-negotioable minimum sentence of ten years behind bars, to interfere with voting rights or to alter election results, including manipulating electronic voting machines, ALL of which much be verified after every election by forensic experts. Any precinct that cannot do this must go back to paper ballots, the hiding or destruction of which also carries the mandatory minimum of ten years.
Environmental reform
a. ALL projects allowed by the Trump administration that have strong objection from local environmental groups are immediately stopped, subject to review and cancellation (i.e. the recently approved big gold mine in Alaska that will block/poison salmon runs forever).
Pursuit of crimes on a Federal level
a. Review of actions of possible criminal activity by (but not limited to) Pompeo, Barr, Kushner, Miller, and anyone named Trump who profited financially from their positions of responsibility in the Trump White House. This goes for members of Congress as well. Any of the above trying to leave the country with one-way tickets is to be immediately sequestered and their passports confiscated. Arrest for crimes against humanity any and all involved in the order to place children in cages. Arrest for murder those responsible for any who died there.
The Trump tax breaks rescinded.
RBG will retire. Prepare NOW a list of well-qualified replacements, pick the best, and get ready to confirm ASAP.
Y'all got your work cut out for you. Take a nice long Christmas vacation and then start working your asses off. We didn't spend all our hard-earned money contributing to your campaigns only to see you give sound-byte speeches on Rachel's show. Those without Secret Service protection, get yourself some professional security. The Republicans are not above killing people they fear will interfere with their agenda. The Wellstone plane crash has not been resolved to everyone's satisfaction, and Trump's pal Putin knows every trick in the book on clandestine assassination, as well as most tricks that never made it into the book. Even as Senate minority leader, McTurtle would probably not shrink from any of them, as long as he doesn't get his personal dainty hands dirty.

(15,220 posts)...to prevent the kind of abuse Trump as been willing to commit. The Hatch Act was broken six ways from Sunday from Trump's convention, and proved absolutely toothless. Trump's response to subpoenas has been to refuse compliance, and drag things out for as long as possible in court.
For everything the law and the Constitution demand of Trump, Trump's response has been, "Go ahead, make me!"
I'm not sure what the best solution would be, but it will almost certainly require constitutional changes (which are, of course, damned hard to put through) to provide Congress and the Judiciary a sufficiently effective means to enforce compliance.
