....way more pro-Democratic candidate yard signs in 2020 than you did in 2016, along with so many anti-Trump signs as well?
My wife and I now reside in western NY but we still spend the summer months in Northern NY where we used to live. Traveling back and forth frequently between WNY and NNY over the past couple of months, I have been noticing many more pro-Democratic presidential candidate yard signs in 2020 than I did during the 2016 campaign. The thing is, I'm often driving through rural areas in NY that are historically red areas, and in recent days, I am now seeing that the 2020 Biden/Harris yard signs are significantly outnumbering the Trump signs.
Taking into account that the areas I'm driving through are historically red areas, and also taking into account that Biden only announced his running mate recently, I think it's pretty impressive that there is so much excitement for the Democratic ticket this election cycle. I'm seeing Biden/Harris signs popping up in areas where I've never seen pro-Democratic signs before. That, plus so many anti-Trump signs.
How about you? Whether or not you live in a blue or red area, are you seeing more pro-Democratic candidate yard signs in 2020 in your area than you did in 2016 and other elections cycles, too?

(12,265 posts)A lot of the Democrats I know here are afraid to put one in their yards. The republicans in Oklahoma have become much more nasty than prior to Trump. I put them out, but I put them close to my house where if they have to come get it or damage it they are trespassing.

(346 posts)I am noticing several Trump signs, huge ones and decorations all around them in some yards, but not one Biden sign. Not many, but enough that there are a couple on each street and they are noticeable. I think people, like me, are afraid to put out Biden signs. Too many people love shooting at things and throwing bricks through car windows here for much less.

(6,034 posts)Yard signs don't vote. We often use it when people don't want to knock on doors and we try to persuade them to.
However, there may be some relevance to yard signs now given the pandemic.

(9,893 posts)in a purple area. SE Pa, Philadelphia burbs. The first thing that concerned me in 2016 was the amount of Trump signs I was seeing. This year I am definitely seeing more Biden signs, very few Trumps. Although, around here if I were a Trumper I dont know that Id put out a sign. It kind of tags you as a dope.
haha, good one, Robin. Amen to that!

(9,267 posts)Upper Bucks. Theres Trump signs but Im starting to see more of ours. One house in my town has Trump 2020 in the front yard and the very next house has Anybody But Trump 2020.

(6,261 posts)I noticed not noticing any Hillary yard signs in 2016, though, which I thought ominous at the time as I live in Seattle.
Very few bumper stickers either, except for some anti-Inslee (the governor) ones.

It's a bit more blue then it used to be but there are a lot of Trump supporters, I'm surprised how many younger people( white working class} are for him. I chalk that up to racism. They fear their being replaced, I don't dare mention I'm on Social Security(semi retired).I've had those types snarl at me about taking "their" money.
People have had their cars keyed for having Biden stickers on. People who have the "Hate doesn't live hear" banners in front of their homes have had "TRUMP" marked or sprayed on.I do think more people are blue here but you don't wear it on your sleeve. This was a traditional republican stronghold.

(4,448 posts)Signs are good. But I've seen failed candidates with lots of signs and successful without it.
I think it is an extremely local thing that depends on the local office and the general politics of the area.

(29,672 posts)One of our Democratic neighbors sent us a text asking if wed be interested in buying, for $18.00, a Biden/Harris sign......we said damn right. Weve got 3 tRump signs in our neighborhood already, so least we can count is possibly 5 Biden/Harris signs when we get ours on Monday.

(115,732 posts)the Biden signs are just starting to pop up but there have been many Ilhan Omar signs for weeks because of the primary, and about every third house has a Black Lives Matter sign. So I think there will be a lot of Biden signs as soon as they become more available (the one I ordered hasn't arrived yet). No Trump signs at all. In 2016 I saw very few Hillary signs; I couldn't even get one when I went looking for one at a party office. I think the campaign ignored MN, which won't happen this time.

(22,236 posts)Within a few weeks when Biden/Harris signs become more available, the difference should be even more significant than it is now. Whether or not it means anything in terms of success in November, it sure is refreshing to see the Democratic enthusiasm that is displayed in yard signs in this campaign so far which helps to counter those in-your-face disgusting Trump flags and signs. Every time I drive by a Biden sign or Biden/Harris sign or an anti-Trump sign, it makes me smile from ear to ear.

(32,005 posts)3-4 Rump signs for every Biden sign.
More Hagan signs than Tim Ryan signs.
I am totally disgusted.
It could be that the signs just arent available at the Dem headquarters yet, but you can always buy them online.
To be honest, if I put a Biden sign in my yard, it would probably be mangled or gone within 24 hours. (my house sits back off a main road). So I dont bother.

(1,730 posts)So far, yard signs are scarce along my 1.3 mile walk route. There are a couple of Biden/Harris and BLM signs. The first time I saw the only tRump sign, I did a double take.
Ludicrously, it has a 2-inch hole cut in the lower corner, with a heavy chain securing it to the metal frame on one end, and a tree trunk on the other end. The chain is hidden in several feel of grass on its way to the tree. Every time I pass it, an unholy feeling of contemptuous satisfaction washes over me.

(1,306 posts)Around here, where admittedly HRC lost with just over 20% of the vote, the Trump 2020 signa and flags are popping up EVERYWHERE! In fact, our neighbors, who have NEVER in the 25 years we've lived next to them, put up a sign before. But one appeared in their yard a few days ago. There are already more around town than there was in 2016.
And I have not yet seen even one Democratic Party sign. Not. One.
So, there is no guarantee BIden has this. GOTV like your life depends on it, because it does!

(4,226 posts)Westmoreland County and Fayette County are polluted with trump signs. People here are afraid to put Biden signs out because of vandalism from the hillbillies. Although more Biden signs are popping up. One local house has a lifesize Jesus statue surrounded by trump signs.
None of them can just put out one sign...they have signs, flags and life size cutouts of him. The signs that slay me are the ProLife Pro trump and Veterans for trump. Oh, the Irony.

(3,568 posts)The signs are everywhere now and for every 3 signs there's a flag. A flag! It truly is a cult. I blame Fox news. It's all people watch around here and they are thoroughly brainwashed. They love and worship one of the worst human beings I've ever know about. What times we live in!

However, I doubt very, very much that those signs have been put up by tRump voters. Just don't think so.

(4,465 posts)I live in a fairly reliably Republican 'burb in Ohio. There are only two signs on my particular street, a block down from our house - one Trump, one (right next door) Biden. Nobody had anything but Trump signs in 2016, and the kids in the neighborhood used to kick our Kerry/Edwards sign over every night, back in '04, so kudos to the semi-neighbor who's determined to keep that Biden sign!
I am seeing more Biden signs than I saw Clinton signs in 2016, but right now, almost all of my travel is through rural counties, so obviously the Trump signs vastly outnumber anything else. Here's a good one, though - in some of these areas, I'll see a yard on one side of the state route with a yard prickly with Trump signs, and on the other side, a single Biden sign, near the road, as if it were in defiance.

I didn't put up sign because I live in a court all my neighbors know what I believe and since covid no visitors just us. We have 3 dems and 3 republican households on my court.
Only sign on my court is the teachers who had a senior, all over town signs from seniors.

A Biden-Harris sign in a yard.
First and only one either of us have seen.
Meanwhile, Trump signs, flags, bumper stickers are everywhere. I mean every three or four houses.
And, apparently, not wearing a mask in stores is equivalent to a Trump sign.

A pickup truck drove by me yesterday on I-85 in SC. Prominently had Biden/Harris logos and a "45" in a crossed-out red circle. Truck was mainly white. I honked... And thumbs up.

(4,986 posts)On the way back, I drive on roads that skirt the town (in rural Iowa), because it gets me to my development fastest, which is also on the edge of town. Today, out in the countryside, I saw two of the large 4 x 8 foot Trump signs that have just gone up. I have to admit, it stirs the inner vandal in me when I see those signs....I want to go out there at night with a can of spray paint! Of course I won't, but I do imagine it....
There are no signs allowed in my housing development, which I'm glad of....

(14,565 posts)I know that applies to me. It is not worth the gamble. Those signs will be stolen and your property targeted for damage, especially if Biden wins.
Yesterday Nate Silver had a related tweet regarding lack of Biden yard signs. Countless replies to him were along the same lines, that in certain areas everyone knows there is great risk to publicly aligning against Trump.
I saw one thread on Reddit yesterday in which one rural area had online chat, including the mayor, toward how to get some locals fired and harassed after they put up Biden signs.
My neighborhood has many Trump signs but other homes that I know to be Republican don't have Trump signs -- at least not yet -- but have many signs touting the GOP nominee in local races like district FL-27 and mayor.

(27,995 posts)We live in Phoenix and spend most of the summer in Arizona's white mountains. There are just as many pro trump yard signs and bumper stickers, flags, hats, shirts, etc. here as in 2016. I haven't seen any Biden signs or bumper stickers at all in our travels back and forth, but have seen a few "any functioning adult 2020" bumper stickers.
There is a popular pro-trump store on the main street of the city here on the mountain which contributes to most of the pro DT merch that circulates around here.
