at what point can you do in person voting? If your state has early voting do you have to wait until Election Day?

(16,786 posts)I requested a Ballot via the Mail. If it does not come by the end of September, I will vote early in person. The rules for early in-person voting up until Nov.2nd are clear. If I receive my ballot in the Mail, I will return it in person to the address on the final envelop.

or go to your Secretary of State's website, or whoever in your state handles voting.
It really is a state by state thing.

(11,276 posts)Here you need to mail in the application to be eligible to receive a ballot. About the failure to receive one you will have to talk to someone, it hardly ever happens that the postal service loses mail. The County, would be where I would look for any failure.

(29,718 posts)and ask about your ballot status. In Arkansas, ballots won't be mailed until Oct 8. I also made sure that my application had been received and the ballot would be sent. I'll follow up probably on the 12th or so to make sure it was sent.

(34,075 posts)In Ohio, once you request an absentee ballot you have committed to voting that way. If you don't get your ballot you can vote provisionally on election day (not sure about before), but you cannot cast a regular ballot after requesting an absentee one.
Since the ballot didn't arrive, you obviously can't return it, so when it doesn't arrive in the proper time frame your provisional ballot will be counted.

I requested my ballot already, and if it doesn't arrive, that's what I plan to do.

(1,425 posts)In TX, you may cast a provisional ballot, either early or on Election Day. The Early Vote Ballot Board (a bipartisan group of election workers who review and accept/reject mailed ballots for counting) will meet about 9 days after the election to review overseas military ballots and provisional votes. IF there is no record of your mail ballot being received by the County Clerk, your in-person vote will be accepted and added to the total. I've worked as a member of an Early Vote Ballot Board for the last 6 elections, and I will be working during the upcoming election.
Again, every state has it own laws regarding the election. Check with the authority in charge of your state's elections.

(13,186 posts)I'll be voting in person. It's Missouri, so my vote against Trump probably isn't going to help. Still, I'll take a modest risk of COVID just to increase Trump's popular vote loss and vote against any Republicans down ticket.
For me, voting by mail looked too iffy. Not because of the Post Office, but because there are too many hoops in Missouri. I faxed a request for a mail-in ballot for example last time and was informed by phone that mail-in ballots (as opposed to absentee ballots) must be applied for by mail or in person. The completed ballot (again, my understanding) must be returned by mail, and its envelope must be notarized. Ridiculous.
So I'm voting in person on election day.

(22,137 posts)A lot of resentment exists among those I talk to around where I live (STLMO) w/regards to the numerous failures of trump, and especially his filthy nonstop mouth, his ranting and raving. He's nuts and he needs to be thrown in jail for inciting riots, mayhem, and all kinds of mischief primarily to benefit himself and only himself.

(44,973 posts)In OH, you do need to request your ballot by mail, which is easy to do. Then they send it to you, and you can either mail it back, or drop it into a very special drop box (only one is allowed per county) and nothing needs to be notarized.
You can then track it to see if it was accepted.

(10,137 posts)50 states plus DC = 51 different rules (at least)
This happened to me once. in California. The county registrar's web site showed that the ballot had been sent, but after two weeks I still hadn't received it. I emailed them, and got a replacement, along with an affidavit to sign stating that the original ballot never arrived.
In California, one can request a provisional ballot on election day.

(3,784 posts).....It says that absentee ballots won't even be mailed out until Oct. 6. So don't panic if you haven't received yours yet. I requested mine weeks ago as well. And if I don't receive it, you better believe I'm showing up to my polling location and DEMANDING a provisional ballot.

(79,302 posts)but then Stacey Abrams' organization (Team Fair Fight https://fairfight.com/) sent me an email in which I could request the ballot online.
