Census, like the Post Office, politicized this election year

https://www.localmemphis.com/mobile/article/news/nation-world/census-politicized-during-2020-election/507-4f273b65-ac64-4774-9184-88faf5773b0c

Why? The census determines not only how much federal money each state gets, but also how many congressional seats and Electoral College votes.

ORLANDO, Fla — The postal service isn’t the only staid federal agency to be drawn into a political battle in 2020.

Unlike the department charged with delivering mail, however, the U.S. Census Bureau has been here before. It has found itself targeted by politicians repeatedly since it conducted its first nationwide head count in 1790.

Snip

“What this administration has done is unprecedented in breadth and scope,” said Thomas Saenz, who heads the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. “Every decision made about the conduct of the census has been politically infected."

More at link. Interesting this is an ABC station, which tends to be more conservative in my experience.

The current one probably undercounted population by around 100 million - making it by far the least accurate census in U.S. history, and one of the most inaccurate in the world since at least the Renaissance.

Imagine this is a year from today:

"The constitution mandates a census for April 1st for every year ending in 0 - so goodness gracious, we can't have a do-over!"

"What about charges that you covered for former President Trump in exchange for his covering for Jimmy Chao's trafficking?"

"I demand a do-over!"
