https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/29/politics/trump-voters-analysis/index.htmlI've spent a lot of time talking about the importance of the 50% mark for former Vice President Joe Biden. Biden, unlike Hillary Clinton four years ago, is consistently hitting and exceeding 50% in the polls, which means President Donald Trump can't just count on late deciders to put him over the top.
Trump, on the other hand, has never reached 50% in either his approval rating or against his Democratic opponents in any live interview poll during the last five years.
Now, there is obviously a chance Trump will eventually reach 50% against Biden.
But if this streak continues for Trump, he will be the first president to never reach 50% in any live interview poll in either his first successful campaign for president, approval rating or his reelection bid.
More at link. I think chumputin is whining about his "silent majority" as a set up for a putin hack!

(38,503 posts)Obviously. The silent majority are the ones who can't stand Trump, but don't dare say so. They are also the ones whose votes will be disqualified, destroyed or "lost."

(4,167 posts)Republicans arent the silent majority...for one, they arent silent....they are the ones who are usually in your face with their MAGA hats, always have all types of bumper stickers on their cars, spouting ignorant shit on the internet and crying, etc....and they arent the majority as seen by the last 7 presidential elections where they have lost the popular vote in 6.

(58,667 posts)Frankly, it has never really been true. No modern election has had half of eligible voters vote for one side. Far too many people sit the elections out for that. At best, elections are won by 30-40% of eligible voters, which may or may not equate to 50% of ballots actually cast. Repubs have not won their 'first' election ballot by 50% since Bush Sr, IIRC. Bush Jr got over 50% on his re-election, but he got to run as a "war time" president, which gives an artificial boost.
Trump will not get 50% of ballots cast. No way. How that is reflected in the EC vote is the problem, of course. Right now, he's struggling in most battleground states, which is why he's fighting to rig it.
