How could this happen in our country? It's like a nightmare we are unable to awake from. Every day is worse than the last and it just doesn't stop.

Without people like Goebbels and Goering and Himmler, Hitler wouldn't have gone anywhere. Without Barr and McConnell and Graham and a whole bunch of other supine Senators and appointees, neither would Trump.

(5,810 posts)See if you can find it at the PBS site. He explains how Hitler and others (Mussolini) were able to use propaganda, control of the press, fear and violence to woo in followers. It is chilling to see the similarities between the tactics used back then and the methods that tRump is using now, He has his enablers, too, just as Hitler did. We are damned fools if we say it cant or wont happen here. It is already happening. Wake up.

(34 posts)In addition to the rot that is the GOP, follow the money. Ive been saying that the GOP and NRA pretty much ALL took illegal campaign money and help from the Russians and maybe others. Tell me Im a conspiracy theorist but Occams Razor says give me some other alternative that would affect nearly 100% alignment. Words. Deeds. Trips to Russia by people now running disinformation through the Senate.
Again. Why else?

(10,192 posts)They don't. Russia hasn't been communist for a long time, they aren't politically progressive and they're certainly not socially liberal. The country is controlled by Putin and a corrupt, ultra-conservative band of thuggish oligarchs. Russia financially supports ultra-rightwing, nazi, racist, christian fundamentalist, white nationalist and other anti-democratic groups and movements.
Like Putinism's corrupt mix of plutocracy and autocracy, Trumpism, aided by thieving corporatist Republicans, is destroying our constitutional republic and establishing an American autocracy run by American oligarchs, where all wealth flows to the top and the rights of minorities and others are trampled. Why would Republicans oppose that?

(13,186 posts)He tells a lie, and, no matter what it is, everyone just believes him. The idea of lies is alien to them so they can't even conceive of someone telling one.
With Trump, it's similar. People simply don't know how to deal with someone who lies so blatantly, so constantly, and with such brazenness. The media had a real hard time with it, especially at first. It was only about three or four years ago that you almost never read or heard a media report saying someone had lied, or deliberately spoken falsehoods, or said something without evidence. Then Trump comes along, and they all had to have emergency meetings on what to do with their style guides and policies. They ended up having to start using the word "lie" routinely in their reporting thanks to Trump.
The people hurt by his lies also don't know what to do. They say he's a liar over and over again, but it doesn't matter. He's President, and he's backed by fellow Republicans who willingly back his lies.
The people helped by his lies, Republicans, don't know how to deal with it either. They feel like they're getting away with something, so they sell their souls for a handful of magic beans and any chance they can find to avoid Trump's wrath on a day-by-day basis. He who turns and runs away, lives to run away another day.

(16,169 posts)I am not trying to be a tin foil hatter but this documentary will open your eyes I hope.
Our country is being run by the "mob" and now they want our social security and medicare dollars.
They are never satisfied, never. All of ours belongs to them and as we complain about Billy Barr, and Lindsey Graham, they're robbing us blind. Hell, what are we gonna do? March in the streets? Paint signs? They've already seized the reigns of power and are on their way to taking the rest.. Gaud, I hope I'm wrong., , , I really do.
That's why the conald said he would be the auditor of where the PPA funds went. Right out the door Yeah, I know, it's tinfoil hat area, but think about who benefits the most?
