"They count on the sheer volume of misinformation

— 'flooding the zone with shit,' in Steve Bannon’s memorable phrase — to overwhelm our political institutions’ ability to check their misbehavior."

"They count on making us all exhausted — beating us over the head so heavily and consistently with lies that we feel abused into treating them like a normal party, debating normal things like whether their 'law and order' message will resonate with median white voters in Wisconsin."

The RNC weaponized exhaustion
The sheer volume of lies and illegal behavior from Trump and the Republicans is what allowed them to get away with it.

I don't think they are that clever. I think we simply ran into a sociopath that has lived his entire life pathologically lying every waking hour and not seeing any consequences for it. And all his life he has protected himself with crooked lawyers and the ability to fire anyone who challenges him.

And if I elaborate anymore, I would be over-thinking it.

all that and it is formidable, particularly with Fox News. If Nixon had the equivalent, he never would have resigned. 2000 election going to the Supremes instead of ballots being re-counted? Same fundamental control, exercised by Lots of enablers and string pullers from the ground to the SC.

The news will only report on "developments" like a court case won or lost or a statement made. Meanwhile, it's day 1400 (low estimate) of no fucking tax returns and it's a big deal every day. And as the OP suggests, the voluminous cavalcade of other developments keeps their heads spinning.

I started posting here nearly 5 years ago about Putin's political strategist/scientist, Alexsander Dugin and his articulation of what's known as 5th column political theory. The posted article accurately describes active measures deployed and honed by Putin's resurgent Sovietism being imported and applied to us here. This is the ultimate purpose of Trump being Putin's man...the ultimate way to undermine our democracy.

We, the people, are going to be powerless in the brokerage of our genetic fate if we don't (each of us, individually) remember the value of real education. Not reading articles and blogs, but books and lectures. Intellectuals must again be valued in our culture; they must again be our luminaries. Anything less is chaos and cruelty.

32. Occam's Razor can help here. The act that underlies their words is essentially criminal.
Sat Aug 29, 2020, 09:32 PM

What Trumpist Republicans are really about is seizing minority control of what most Americans want to be a democratic, Constitution-based republic. Republicans are being criminal-minded in the sense that they know what they are doing is wrong, and they are doing it anyway. The lies are just sound effects to give the false impression that they are engaging in political debate. In reality, they just want to mug us for power, and the talk is just the patter that gets us alone with them in the alley.

Occam's Razor in this case is the vote. It's the only answer. Dialectic is pointless and exhausting. Republicans have to lose convincingly enough that they know the Constitution, Truth, and justice cops (the Dems and any decent Republicans and independents who are on the good side) have them outnumbered and aren't taking any shit from them. In other words, no matter what they say, it's irrelevant at this point because they're just lying. So ignore it, and when they get you in the alley, slug them. I.e., vote like it's a fight for right because it is.
