OTD 1962, Fannie Lou Hamer led 17 volunteers to register to vote in Indianola, Mississippi. They were blocked by way of a discriminatory literacy test, harassed on their way home, stopped by police and fined. That night, Hamer lost her job for daring to register to use her voice.
