Former Michigan governor Rick Snyder: I am a Republican vote for Biden

I had the opportunity to interact with Mr. Biden when he served as vice president. My interactions were always constructive and respectful. He has shown the desire to heal a deeply divided nation; has demonstrated strong moral character and empathy; and he seems willing to listen to people who have different perspectives from his own.

For years, I mentioned in most of my speeches the need to bring back civility to our nation. We will not continue to be the greatest nation in the world if we can’t get along among ourselves. We have only become more divided over the past four years. We need a leader who believes in civility and bringing Americans closer together.

While I am endorsing Joe Biden for president, I am still a Republican who also will be publicly supporting Republican candidates at the local, state and federal level.

One more republican lending their vote for one election only... this momentum continues to grow and long it may continue...

It's popular now for some Republicans to say they're going to vote for Biden. Once they get inside that booth, I'm highly suspect. Very very few of them have any integrity.

He's going to continue to support Republicans, and these people he's going to support by and large approve of their glorious Orange Anus.

I'm increasingly suspect of these high-profile folks who say they will support Biden because Trump is evil as I think it works for them no matter who wins. If Biden wins they were on the side of righteousness (real or imagined), if Trump wins they may take a momentary hit amongst the MAGAts but they know they will ultimately continue to benefit from their Republican affiliation.

Than actually voting for Biden, right?

Even if he only convinces two rethugs to switch to Biden that is still a net loss of one vote to drumpf.

Trump can not remain in power or there will be many more environmental disasters, among many other horrors. Snyder is rightfully damaged goods, but he is still a high recognition Republican in a key battleground state.I don't know how many Republicans in Michigan will be influenced by Snyder endorsing Biden, but it will be more than zero. This is a welcome development.

Of course we have our share of looney tunes, armed to the teeth, uneducated tea baggers but for the most part the majority of us are not like them. Those people are just the loudest and most obnoxious and get all the press.

It's going to be a bigger blue wave than the 2018 election in Michigan!

It's different than 2016, though. I see almost no trump/pence yard signs, bumper stickers, etc this year which is the complete opposite of 2016. I don't think he's gonna be able to steal our state this time. I've been a member of DU since 2002. You'll like it. Glad to have you here!

Not as many trump signs around as last time...Biden signs keep getting stolen.

I can never forgive him for Flint, and he was a wolf in sheep's clothing as a governor, but his vote means something. It gives moderate Republicans yet another pause from a person they respect. This will flip some votes to Biden, maybe not a lot, but maybe enough in MI.

... because there are a lot of "moderate" Repukes who can no longer take Chump's shit anymore. They were getting increasingly uneasy, but the Covid mismanagement and the hateful racism of 2020 is just too much.

I don't see these people leaving the party though, unless the GOP just disintegrates and that's certainly a possibility. These "moderate" Repukes are still basically stupid, greedy people who fell for Chump, and they'll fall for the next snake-oil salesman too. They haven't seen the light.

These guys like Rick Snyder are going to help us elect Biden, and we should accept that help. That is all.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll channel Winston Churchill in 1941 when he embraced Stalin, but I truly despise that man. He belongs in jail for Flint alone. And then there's his midnight signing of the Right to Fire legislation he said he "had no interest in" while campaigning. Then there was the "Emergency Manager" bill that negated elections in that coincidentally were cities whose elected officials were majority Black. I could go on and on but I won't. I think you catch my drift.
