"Trump Encourages People in North Carolina to Vote Twice, Which Is Illegal"
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/02/us/politics/trump-people-vote-twice.html
This gives the impression that if you think (whether rightfully or mistakenly) that your mail in ballot didn't arrive or was not counted (e.g., by going to trackmyvote.com) you risk criminality by going to your polling place to either vote if you can (you were not checked off) or by submitting a provisional ballot). In other words, you CAN'T vote twice. If you can it's the fault of the system, not you. You should do everything you can to make sure your vote is counted by election day.

(16,616 posts)I've been critical of their headlines for months, because they've been acting like Trump is a "normal" president. But this headline tells it like it actually is. It could only be better if it was something like this:
Trump, whose campaign is in a death spiral, pleads with pathetic supporters to break the law by voting twice.

(18,402 posts)Voting once because your ballot didn't arrive, or if you simply change your mind after requesting a mail-in ballot, is I should think obvious to most people. It differs in each state, so we need to keep reminding people to check the specific alternatives and rules in their municipalities.
But I don't think we need to start nitpicking the headlines. He is indeed telling them to try something illegal (which of course won't work because they will be recorded as already having voted) in order to delegitimatize an election he knows he's losing. It's important to get that information out. And it's important for us to let people know the rules.

(32,626 posts)no matter what your reasoning. If you have an issue with your ballot call your elections official, don't take it upon yourself to commit a crime by trying to vote twice.
