10. I listened to an NPR interview of Margaret Atwood this week.

She did not make a direct comparison of Republican right-wing policies to the policies of the elite in her book Handmaid’s Tale, mostly because she said we aren’t there yet. We’re just on the way, and Republicans want women in one of two roles: forced baby breeders or forced laborers cleaning up the poisoned environment the elites created.

The desire to use the government to control women’s bodies is behind at least some of Trump supporters’ loyalty to him. They do not care about the loss of democracy because it is democracy that allows women the freedom to make their own decisions. Given a choice between democracy or government control, government control would win with this set of voters.
