I distinctly remember him giving himself a mulligan for the first 100,000 deaths. We've kind of blown past that, and though I'm not a golfer, doesn't your opponent have to give you a mulligan? That is, you can't just call one for yourself after you've shanked one into the Forbidden Forest?
