The CNN interview did it or me. Was I BS-ed?

(115,824 posts)We've seen him in action here. Trust me, he's nuts. Maybe not certifiable, but he doesn't just march to a different drummer; he's not even in the band. You wouldn't believe some of the crap he pulled...
In a way he's a kind of libertarian version of Donald Trump. He was always in it for the publicity and the ego trip. That's not to say he doesn't believe some (or even all) of the stuff he says, but he never saw a camera he didn't like, even while pretending to hate the local media (maybe because they called him on some of his antics). Being governor seemed to be mostly just a game for him. Once he got the job his next step was to try to find more media opportunities, and push the state to do things that benefited him personally, like lower the fee for car license plates. He went and got himself a big ol' Hummer, and he was pissed off at the cost of the license for it (because, of course, it was a big, fat, expensive vehicle). So he made a BFD over trying to get those fees reduced. Because it cost HIM too much money. Also, he didn't like living in the governor's mansion because it was sort of public, though he was happy to let his ne'er-do-well kid have parties there and trash the place.

(8,514 posts)I think some people are not ready for what he has to say, but I don't think he's a nut at all. And, as time goes on, and the truth comes out, I think more and more people will also think he's not so nutty after all.

some people confuse this with nuttery tho, as most will be oh so careful not to offend. Jesse is not one to get intimidated like most.
I like Jesse, he has fire and he's pretty sharp and even if you think some of his stories and opinions are extreme it's always interesting.

We should at least be open-minded so that when the veil is lifted we aren't caught off guard.
Jesse would reduce the NUT factor if he did something with his hair!

(4,840 posts)He may say something right occasionally but he's another Trump. I'm tired of performers in politics. Trump and Ventura are like bulls in a china shop. I'm so sick of this narrative that because "I ran a casino" or "I was a famous wrestler" or even a "Military guy" that makes you now qualified to enter politics. Why weren't you involved in politics and community activism before you decided you could be a politician?
These he-man borderline mobster types always enter politics after they get tired of their business or when they are "retired" from performing. Their egos are so inflated from their successes in their other non-political fields they think they can run a state or the country.
I'm not buying it. I want an academic and activist who has made politics and proper governing their life.

Then, suddenly, he raises his head and says, "The real reason that the Founding Fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence was because they were starting to personally lose money under George III. If the British monarch wasn't trying to use the Colonies as a piggy bank to pay for foreign adventure elsewhere in the world, we'd still be singing, 'Rule Britannia', and drinking a toast to our revered Queen Elizabeth at closing time."
He then goes back to mumbling into his drink.

(3,419 posts)is a nut I think he see's through the bullshit that is fed us 24 hours a day by the thing he hates the most .."The Media" He hated it when he was governor and he hates it now. He thinks a two party bought and paid for system does not work and he is not afraid to say it.

(6,073 posts)After he said he would run for Pres in 2016, I visited his FB page and saw a Ventura Stern 2016 poster. If that is his idea, he is nuts. I enjoy them as entertainers but I don't think it would ever happen.
