He does do beneficial things for our party but he is a fickle and untrustworthy ally.

(65,142 posts)...he's already ponied up $75 million, plus $100 million to black educational institutions.
How can you say he's not lived up to his promise with 8 weeks to go?
On Nov 3, if he's still at $75 million, your point will be well taken.
Until then, it's a kneejerk reaction. Finding a problem where you want to find one.

(6,143 posts)But buying ad time in an election is not like running down to the store to buy a coke. It has to be done in advance. The longer you wait the less likely you can get on the air. Lets also remember that Bloomberg said he was going to keep his campaign staffers in place until the election and then fired them all. So he has lied about his intentions already and doesnt get the benefit of the doubt.
ProfessorGAC
(65,142 posts)Also, I don't agree upon the time needed.
Contracts for ads is boilerplate stuff. Nothing more complicated that buying a car, cash.
And, have you noticed how rapidly LP is assembling their ads.
Their stuff is coming out a day or two after PINO provides an attack site.
Exactly how much time is needed when we've seen evidence, for 2 months, that the turnaround time is less than a week.
Trumpocalypse
(6,143 posts)Ad buys, especially in local markets need to be done weeks in advance. Creative executions can be swapped in and out fairly quickly but the actual ad time needs to be purchased well in advance.

(31,261 posts)My argument is that is very important also. Often we let our presidential campaigns suck up all the money and famish down ballot candidates. We need to be smarter than that and our presidential ticket needs to be resourceful with the money it gets.

(13,186 posts)Sorry, but this could just be someone in an obscure "pro-Biden" group (or "two" trying to put pressure on Bloomberg. We'd need to know which "pro-Biden" groups did the asking. I want Biden/Harris controlling the message as much as possible, frankly. I don't think ad blitzes or any kind of half-baked "blitz" will really help. Given Bloomberg's results in the primary, I doubt Bloomberg is an ad blitz believer.

(13,186 posts)I don't really think we want Bloomberg jumping on (as I say) half-baked ad blitzes or blitzes of any kind. He got burnt on that himself. Suppose Bloomberg put, say, $10 million into some upstart "pro-Biden" group and they turned out to be negatives. Maybe their approach alienates people, or their leader is caught skimming, or whatever. Bloomberg can take his time, imo.

(13,186 posts)This Ed MD, whoever he is, is deigning to dictate to Bloomberg when and where Bloomberg should spend his money. And who really knows what Bloomberg is doing? Once Ed MD donates (or pulls in donations of) $80 million, then he can talk. (Of course, he can talk now, but there's no weight there.)

(18,755 posts)the he is just waiting for the nomination to start spending money and keep his promise to spend money and defeat Trump.
I have been convinced by all of those who have had faith in this promise. He won't waffle and point out his own campaign cost him a billion dollars. He won't cheese out and count money he spends on other races as well; after all he spent a lot putting many Republicans into some of those seats, this would just be undoing some of the damage of the past.
I'm sure our great white Savior will act and support Biden when the moment is right.

(18,755 posts)it was in the Presidential race, down ballot wasn't mentioned.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate any money going to Democratic candidates. But I also look with both eyes. Bloomberg has a history of supporting Republicans as well as Democrats. Arguably he is responsible, at least in part, for Republicans having a Senate majority.
I have an instinctive distrust of those who play both sides. I am not disappointed in his lack of action as I didn't expect anything in the first place. I was supremely unsurprised when it was quietly announced his total campaign cost was just over a billion dollars. That conveniently technically fulfilled his promise to spend a billion in the Presidential race.

(14,565 posts)It is the most pivotal state in terms of margin for error, and Bloomberg's ads demonstrated a great feel for the Florida electorate.
However, it's more than amusing to see the situational realities botched to such extreme. I argued countless times in General Discussion Primaries that if you wanted Bloomberg's money you'd need to nominate Bloomberg. How can Kamala Harris' debate attacks be dismissed as "that's politics" without recognizing that a $1 billion pledge from Mike Bloomberg in January 2020 is going to settle as "that's politics." That's when the $1 billion pledge occurred, in mid January. Bloomberg was gearing up his own ads in anticipation he'd be the nominee.
This article details many of the donations Bloomberg has made, with section below the key summary: https://www.npr.org/2020/07/29/896545732/bloomberg-vowed-to-spend-whatever-it-takes-to-beat-trump-dems-are-still-waiting
"Altogether, it makes Bloomberg the single biggest donor to the Democrats this year, and it's having an impact on the ground, according to party strategists in battleground states.
North Carolina is one of those, and it has pretty much every political prize on the line in November with competitive contests for president, U.S. Senate, U.S. House seats, governor and control of the state Legislature, with redistricting looming next year.
"What the Bloomberg campaign did right was they put money into field organizing," said state Rep. Graig Meyer, who is in charge of fundraising and recruiting for Democratic Statehouse candidates. "And so that getting campaign operations up and running, building a volunteer base, setting up the structure for direct voter contact all of that is happening because they made that investment through the DNC."
