Trump says he's taking 'high road' by not meeting with Democrats on coronavirus relief

President Donald Trump said Monday that he's taking "the high road" by not meeting with Democratic leaders as negotiations for another another round of coronavirus relief remain stalled.

Trump, during a meandering Labor Day news conference at the White House in which he talked up the economy and repeatedly attacked Democratic rival Joe Biden, was asked why he has not met with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. The prospect of additional aid for the people and businesses hurting due to the pandemic has appeared increasingly slim since talks between the Trump administration and Congress broke down at the end of July.

"Don’t say there’s no hope," Trump said after a reporter suggested that there was little hope of an aid deal. "Why do you say there’s no hope? What do you know? What do you know? And let me just tell you, I know my customers, that’s what I do. I know Pelosi, I know Schumer very well. They don’t wanna make a deal, because they think it’s good for politics if they don’t make a deal. This has nothing to do with anything other than you have to know who you’re dealing with. I do."

"These are people that I don’t have a lot of respect [for]," he added. "I don’t think they have a lot of respect for the American people. And I know who I’m dealing with. And I don’t need to meet with them to be turned down."

There’s nothing that Trump can do. McConnell has lost control of his caucus. Absent some major change, there will be no further, Federal coronavirus relief until 2021.

On one side he had Cruz and Cotton and Paul pushing poison pills or refusing to spend a dime. On the other side he had Trump and Mnuchin demanding that they be allowed to dictate all the terms of the relief bill. McConnell couldn’t get anything done, so he went home to Kentucky to campaign. Presumably, he left Mnuchin in charge of negotiations from the Republican side, and that hasn’t accomplished anything to date. Even if Mnuchin and Pelosi could come up with a deal, it’s entirely likely that Senate Republicans would torpedo it.

All he knows how to do is not compromise and reaching out to Democrats is hideous to him, even if he agrees with them. He spent six years under Obama just saying no. And when they lost the house, he went back to it. Its all or nothing. So he's content on filling judicial vacancies with his people....vacancies he made sure Obama would never fill.

The CARES Act was actually passed by the Senate. McConnell made it happen—back when he had Trump’s full confidence and when coronavirus panic was sufficiently high to convince Republican Senators to spend big bucks. At this point, McConnell has lost Trump’s confidence and the confidence of his caucus. In addition, coronavirus panic has waned. Right now, it will be extremely difficult to get any coronavirus relief bill through the Senate.

and if it turns South, watch for a panic to ensue.

Trump's Campaign has been tapped out. And he is doing everything possible to use the Daily Pressers as his Campaign Message Machine.

High road my ass. His Advisors must be in full Panic Mode knowing plagiarizing others speeches and written stories is all they have left.

The Spaghetti Monster is just launching plates of shit hoping something at least leaves a stain.

Repubs must not allow Pres Obama to subvert the Constitution of the US for his own benefit & because he is unable to negotiate w/ Congress.

Art of the Deal?

"With Congress, you have to get everybody in a room and you have to get them to agree, but you have to get them to agree [to] what you want."
